October 2001. My original title, Lenguaje, ciencia e indeterminación, was the only one appearing in all the correspondence with Paidós, the publisher, as well as the only one appearing in the long process of proofreading. I corrected several full sets of proofs where this title can be read in the title page and in every page of the book, being the official title of the new book in the Pensamiento contemporáneo series (the last one on the list). You can easily imagine what I felt when the publisher sent me a copy of the book with a new title!! I was never, ever consulted about the change. This is a very serious problem, not only because this procedure is obviously intolerable, but also because the new title is clearly wrong: I'm convinced that Quine would have never given his authorization for it. The reason is simple: it's presupposed that according to Quine scientific knowledge is a dogma, and I think this is mistaken in the context of Quine's whole philosophy. I'm waiting for some sort of solution to this problem by the publisher, so I hope to be able to inform about it soon here.
