Licenciado en Farmacia por la Universidad de Barcelona el 3 de julio de 1961. Estancia de tres meses (Octubre – diciembre de 1961) en la Farmacia del Saint Mary Hospital de Londres (Reino Unido). Técnico en los laboratorios farmacéuticos Parke and Davis de Madrid (1962‑1963). Realizó el curso de Microbiología del Suelo del Instituto Pasteur (Paris, Francia) en Septiembre y Octubre de 1964. Doctor en Farmacia por la Universidad Complutense de Madrid en Julio de 1965. Colaborador Científico del Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC.), Madrid (1966). Post‑Doctoral Fellow en el Departamento de Bioquímica de la Universidad de Cambridge, Reino Unido (1965‑1968). Post‑Graduate Certifícate in Plant Biochemistry, Universidad de Cambridge. Reino Unido, 1966. Doctor (Ph.D.) en Bioquímica por la Universidad de Cambridge (Reino Unido) en Diciembre de 1968. Research Associate en el Waskman Institute of Microbiology, Rutgers. The State University of New Jersey (USA) (1969‑1970). Investigador Científico del CSIC. (1970‑1975). Profesor Agregado de Microbiología de la Universidad de La Laguna en Octubre de 1975 y de la Universidad de Salamanca en Enero de 1976. Catedrático de Microbiología de la Facultad de Farmacia de la Universidad de Barcelona (1977) y de la Universidad de Valencia desde Diciembre de 1978. Decano de la Facultad de Farmacia de la Universidad de Valencia (1979‑1980).

                        Recibió el Premio Severo Ochoa de Investigación Biomédica en 1988 y el Premio Alberto Sols a la Mejor Labor Investigadora en Ciencias de la Salud en 1994. Es Académico Correspondiente de la Real Academia Nacional de Farmacia desde el 11 de Junio de 1992.

                        Patente de un microchip que contiene 6172 genes de C. albicans como uno de los resultados del trabajo realizado por el  Consorcio Europeo NOVEL APPROACHES FOR THE CONTROL OF FUNGAL DISEASE (QLK2-CT-2000-00795) del que forma parte.
