Welcome to my personal website!

I am an Associate Professor at the Department of Organic Chemistry and my research is carried out at the Institute for Molecular Science (ICMOL) at the University of Valencia.

I earned my PhD in Chemistry in 2007, with the highest mark (European Doctorate and Extraordinary Prize) under Prof. Perez-Prieto´s supervision. Then, I got a post-doctoral grant from the Spanish Ministry of Science and Technology to develop new sensors based on quantum dots at the University of Ottawa under the supervision of Prof. Scaiano where I continued working as Research Associate for another 2 years. After that, I was awarded with a Juan de la Cierva contract and a Marie Curie Career Integration Grant within the 7th European Community Framework (FP7-PEOPLE-2011-CIG) to support my research within Prof. Pérez-Prieto´s group. Later on, I got the Ramón y Cajal contract at the University of Valencia and a year later my current tenured position.

The relevance of my work has resulted in 66 publications (h index: 24), five book chapters, co-editor of a book and two  international patents (one of them licensed). I have been an active part of >30 funded projects with several researchers from University of Valencia (8 of them PI), University of Ottawa, Universidad de Santiago de Chile, The University of Liverpool, Canada National Research Council and Universidad Nacional de Córdoba.

Research lines

• Photoactive nanomaterials, photocatalysis, bioapplications.
• My research focuses on photoactive materials based on upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) and metal nanoparticles (MNPs) for light-driven applications (e.g., photocatalysis, photodynamic therapy). I have contributed to the field of photochemistry, organic chemistry, and nanotechnology, and specialized in steady-state and time-resolved techniques for photophysical and photochemical characterization.
