Dr. González-Béjar research focuses on photoactive materials based on upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) and metal nanoparticles (MNPs) for light-driven applications (e.g., photocatalysis, photodynamic therapy). She has contributed to the field of photochemistry, organic chemistry, and nanotechnology, and is specialized in steady-state and time-resolved techniques for photophysical and photochemical characterization.

Currently, Dr. González-Béjar is an Associate Professor at the Department of Organic Chemistry and her research is carried out at the Institute for Molecular Science (ICMOL) at the University of Valencia. She earned her PhD in Chemistry in 2007, with the highest mark (European Doctorate and Extraordinary Prize) under Prof. Perez-Prieto´s supervision. Then, she got a post-doctoral grant from the Spanish Ministry of Science and Technology to develop new sensors based on quantum dots at the University of Ottawa under the supervision of Prof. Scaiano where she continued working as Research Associate for another 2 years.
After that, Dr. González-Béjar was awarded with a Juan de la Cierva contract and a Marie Curie Career Integration Grant within the 7th European Community Framework (FP7-PEOPLE-2011-CIG) to support her research within Prof. Pérez-Prieto´s group. Later on, she got the Ramón y Cajal contract at the University of Valencia and a year later her actual tenured position.
The relevance of her work has resulted in 60 publications (h index: 23), five book chapters, co-editor of a book and one licensed international patent.
She has been an active part of >30 funded projects with several researchers from University of Valencia (5 of them PI), University of Ottawa, Universidad de Santiago de Chile, The University of Liverpool, Canada National Research Council and Universidad Nacional de Córdoba.
