Future university students

Universitat de València recently set up the University Incorporation Delegation in order to develop a general action project in the next few years, Futura. The project will deal with information transmission, student recruitment, admission procedures, and incorporation during the first year.

The project is implemented via the following programmes:

Revista futuraProgramme for secondary education cooperation, with the following duties:

- Meets demands by career officers, lecturers, and managing teams (instruments, associations, and work materials).

- Coordinate Universitat actions in the secondary education guidance plant.

- Integrate Universitat actions with the actions of secondary education centres.

These are some of the actions to be taken this academic year:

- Publication of the magazine Futura.

- Allocation of university lecturers to secondary schools, for them to act as interlocutors between the schools and Universitat (satisfy the needs of career officers, organise visits, propose pilot experiences for cooperation with schools, etc.).

- Production of a communication and participation portal (specific web space).

- Development of the programme Getting to know Universitat.

Getting to know Universitat is an initiative from academic year 1996-97 aimed at providing future university students with information about Universitat and showing them university life. The programme is organised by the Students Information Service – DISE, together with the Language Policy Service.  It covers the following actions:

Information session for career counsellors. This proposal is addressed to secondary schools and particularly to those responsible for their psycho-pedagogical services.

Programa coneixerGuided tours. These visits enable future students to get in contact with Universitat de València. Participants may choose, from the 5 routes offered, their preferred itinerary.

After a short introduction about Universitat de València, visitors are guided by university students throughout the university premises and campuses.

Visitors are arranged in small groups and the visit takes three hours, approximately.

This activity is indeed recommendable to those students who live far from València and have never had an opportunity to visit Universitat.

Information sessions on individual degrees. The sessions provide in-depth information on the contents, structures, and professional scope of the degree. They are targeted at pre-university students, career officers, and counsellors needing first-hand information on the wide degree offer of Universitat de València.

Programme for university admission and integration in year 1. It includes the following actions:

- Coordinate university access tests.

- Contribute to improving quality and facilitate the adaptation of Universitat to the new European Higher Education framework by developing new teaching methodologies.

- Improve student integration devices for students joining Universitat for the first time.

These are some of the actions to be developed:

- Informative sessions about the different degrees.

- Level courses.

- Implementation of a tutorial system. Staff development plan.

In the 2003 call of proposals, tutorial innovation projects were passed for more than 20 degrees. They will be commissioned in the 2004-2205 academic year.
