Studies for people over 55 years of age: La Nau Gran

The programme La Nau Gran is run by the University Extension Service. It conforms to the ISO 9001:2000, which ensures its service quality.

LaNau Gran is targeted at those people over 55 years willing to become Universitat de València students and share classrooms and courses with the rest of the students, thus fostering the contact between generations.

Seven different pathways are offered lasting three academic years (900 hours in total). Students must choose one from the following:

1- History of Art

2- Geography and history

3- Humanities

4- Psychology

5- Health Sciences

6- Social, Economic, and Legal Sciences

7- Basic Sciences

La Nau Gran delivers the following courses:

       - Introductory courses: 150 teaching hours per year along two terms (four months each); they are intended to introduce students to the different areas in the educational pathway chosen (e.g. Introduction to Medieval Art, Introduction to Sociology, Introduction to Physical Geography, Introduction to Economics). Introductory courses are offered throughout the three academic years. They are compulsory. Depending on the programme and year, these courses are delivered in the morning or the afternoon.

           - Elective courses: 120 teaching hours per year along two terms (four months each); they depend on the academic offer of the different faculties and schools. Students can choose those more interesting to them among the subjects offered by La Nau Gran programme, sharing classrooms and lecturers with students from other degrees. Timetables are established by the centres delivering the courses.

           - Optional courses: 30 teaching hours per year; they consist of activities like La Nau Gran d’Hivern and La Nau Gran d’Estiu, sports and physical education, voluntary work, scientific lectures, Valencian courses, guided tours to libraries, and other activities offered by Universitat de València.

Nau Gran als Pobles

Given the great interest of older students, Universitat decided to implement the programme in the central towns of València. This is the idea behind La Nau Gran als Pobles.

Different training courses are offered and taught by Universitat lecturers. The main goal is to provide people older than 55 years with updated and specialised information in connection with the arts (music and cinema), psychology, computers, etc.
