EFP YOUNG SCIENTIST AWARDS
The Executive Board of the European Federation of Parasitologists (EFP) will make a number of EFP Young Scientist Awards at the EMOP IX Congress to be held in Valencia, Spain, the 18-23rd July 2004. The aim of these Awards is to stimulate young parasitologists to participate in European Meetings and thus to contribute to an increasing development of Parasitology in Europe.
The features of the EFP Young Scientist Awards are as follows:

Frequency: To be given every 4 years, at the occasion of EMOP Congresses. |

Fields: Awards will be in two areas: "Research in Basic Parasitology" and "Research in Applied Parasitology". |

3. |
Type of Awards: In each of the above two fields up to 3 prizes may be awarded: First Prize, Second Prize, and Third Prize. |

Value of the Prizes: In both fields: First Prize = 1000 €+ refunding of the EMOP congress registration fee; Second Prize = 600 €+ refunding of the EMOP congress registration fee; Third Prize = 400 €+ refunding of the EMOP congress registration fee. |

Diplomas: A specially designed diploma will be given to each candidate selected for one of the 6 Awards. This diploma will be signed by the President and the Secretary of the EFP Executive Board, and the President of the Scientific Committee of the EMOP IX Congress. The official stamps of both the EFP and the EMOP Congress will be included. |

Candidates: a) must be not more than 35 years old (proof of age will be required); b) must be a national of one of the countries attached to the EFP; c) have to present a paper which must be solely authored by the candidate and must be presented in oral form during the Congress (in the respective Session according to the programme made by the Scientific Committee of the EMOP Congress); d) have to send a letter signed by the Director of the Centre where the research has been carried out by the candidate, certifying that the investigation has been undertaken in an European centre; e) have to send a manuscript of up to 10 pages describing the work to the EFP Award Selection Committee (see the address of the Vice-President at the bottom) not later than the first of June 2004. This manuscript will not be published; its only purpose is to furnish more information on the scientific work and results to the Selection Committee. |

How to present a paper for the Awards: A paper for the Awards must be presented in an abstract form and a 5-minutes summary presented orally at a special session organised during the EMOP Congress. The deadline of April 30, 2004 for Abstract submission also applies to candidates for the Awards; candidates must clearly specify in the Paper Abstract Form they send to the EMOP Organising Committee (see address of EMOP Secretariat in this web page) that the Abstract is submitted for the EFP Young Scientist Awards. Moreover, (i) 10-page, solely authored manuscript, (ii) proof of age, and (ii) letter signed by the Director of the Centre, must be sent to the Vice-President of the EFP Board Prof. Dr. Fabrizio Bruschi (see address at the bottom) before June 1st, 2004. |

Selection Committee: Will comprise 7 members: the President, Secretary and two members of the EFP Executive Board, together with the President of the Scientific Committee of the EMOP Congress, and two European specialists present in the EMOP Congress designated by the above 5 members according to the speciality of the papers presented. |

Selection process: The first 5 members of the Selection Committee listed above will meet the first day of the EMOP Congress, receive the abstracts and manuscripts, and designate the two specialists to be the 6th and 7th members of the Selection Committee. A second meeting will take place, with the full 7 members, for the official constitution of the Committee and the organisation of the selection process activities. In the evaluation process the Selection Committee may consult other specialists, depending on the scientific disciplines of the candidates. A third meeting in the last day of the EMOP Congress will be devoted to the final evaluation and selection of the 6 Prizes; the names of the winners and titles of their papers will be included in the diplomas, which shall then be signed. The 6 Awards will be announced by the President of the EFP Executive Board in the Closing Ceremony of the EMOP Congress. Recipients will receive their diplomas and financial Awards at this ceremony. The winners are obliged to note the receipt of the EFP Young Scientist Award (specifying the EMOP Congress, as well as its locality, country and year when it was held) when publishing their papers. |
