DEADLINES

Social Programme and Partners Programme for Accompanying Persons: registration and payment to be made before April 30, 2004.

 

SOCIAL PROGRAMME FOR SCIENTIFIC PARTICIPANTS

The meeting comprises many social activities. Registration fees for scientific participants directly include the following:

Get Together Party: cocktail welcome on Sunday July 18 (19.30-22.00h) at the City of Arts and Sciences.

Music Event: on Monday July 19 (19.30-22.00h) at the Valencia Convention Centre.

Visit to City Hall and Dinner in Submarine Restaurant of the Oceanographic Park: on Tuesday July 20 (19.30-24.00h) - ONLY for Keynote Speakers, Chairmen and Board Members (because of space limits).

City Tour: with buses on Wednesday July 21 (18.30–21.00h). The tour starts travelling along the avenue were the old city walls were located. Today we can find unique monuments such as the bullring, the superb art-nouveau railway station, and two of the old wall gates, which were original entrances into the city. We will also see the Modern Art Museum, the Fine Arts Museum (Saint Pius V), the Music Palace and medieval bridges crossing the Turia Gardens (the former Turia riverbed). The tour continues towards the oldest part of the city, where we will continue the tour on foot, visiting one of the most astonishing gothic civil buildings in the world, La Lonja or “Old Silk Exchange” declared a World Heritage monument by UNESCO in 1996. We will continue to the “round square”, a charming plaza where you can still experience an XVIII century environment with all kind of handcrafts, ceramics, wrought iron, souvenirs, etc. Next, the main façade of the National Ceramic Museum made of alabaster marble and on the way to the Cathedral we will see the most beautiful Spanish Baroque bell towers of Saint Catherine’s church. The Cathedral of Valencia is like an Arts history book. Building started in 1262 and it reflects various styles from Romanesque to Baroque, the most outstanding feature being the gothic dome. We continue the tour by coach following the former Turia riverbed and getting into the City of Arts and Sciences where we will walk around the site and see the Umbráculo (garden), Hemisferic (IMAX theatre), Science Museum and the Oceanographic Park.

NOT included in registration fees are the following:

Special, Gigantic Rice Paella (Valencia culinary tradition): it will be made and offered to the scientific participants on Wednesday July 21, at the Pharmacy Faculty garden. A total of Euros 18.00 will include a complete meal and free drinks. A coupon for the gigantic paella will be included with the congress documentation for all participants having previously purchased it in the EMOP Registration Form available in the web-site Registration.

Closing Banquet: it will take place in the Devesa Gardens (south of Valencia) on Thursday July 22 evening. Buses will be in charge for the transport from hotels to the Devesa Gardens. The Closing Banquet (Euros 65.00 per person) is not included in the congress fees. Participants interested in attending this final dinner with cocktail, meal and music, shall make the registration by completing the Social and Partners Programme Form available below.

Friday Excursion: following the traditions of previous EMOPs, an excursion day is included. This excursion will be organised on the Friday July 23. The day (9.30 to 20.00h) includes visit to Jativa, the city home of the Borgia Popes, Calixtus III and Alexander VI, full of palaces, a hospital from the 15th century, and a magnificent collegiate church that the Pope Alexander VI wished to transform into Cathedral. After visiting the old town, we will go up to the castle that crowns the city, where we will see the remains of all civilizations that have inhabited this privileged place from Roman times to our days. The lunch will be in the coastal locality of Gandia, famous because of its restaurants for rice paella, sea-food and fish dishes. After having a free time to enjoy the beach (a swim-suit is recommended for those interested to enjoy the Mediterranean water), buses will return to Valencia. The Friday Excursion (Euros 53.00 per person) is not included in the congress fees. Participants interested in attending this excursion, shall make the registration by completing the Social and Partners Programme Form available below.

 

PARTNERS PROGRAMME FOR ACCOMPANYING PERSONS

Upon registration, Get Together Party (Sunday July 18), Opening Ceremony and Music Event (Monday July 19) are directly included costless. Additional to the Closing Banquet and the Friday Excursion included in the Social Programme for scientific participants, accompanying persons may also register for all-day activities on Monday July 19 (Valencia Modern City including City of Arts and Sciences), Tuesday July 20 (City of Porcelain and Panoramic Tour), Wednesday July 21 (Guadalest-Benidorm Excursion), and Thursday July 22 (Valencia Historic City). Those activities may be purchased by individual days, by completing the Social and Partners Programme Form available by clicking the following (Microsoft Word file: Part.doc):

An accompanying person should at least be registered and have paid two complete days of the Partners Programme (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday) to be able to costless attend the Get Together Party, Opening Ceremony and Music Event.

 

The Programme of optional, daily activities include the following:

 

Monday, July 19 (Euros 50.00): Valencia Modern City: Departure from the Convention Centre. Drive along the old riverbed gardens to the City of Arts and Sciences, designed by Santiago Calatrava. Visit to the Sciences Museum. Visit to the Oceanographic Park. Lunch (no extra cost). Departure back to hotels.

 

Tuesday, July 20 (Euros 50.00): City of Porcelain and Panoramic Tour: Departure from hotels. Visit to the Lladró “City of porcelain”, where we will visit the workshop where the Lladró sculptures are made and witness the process of their creations. Back to Valencia and panoramic tour by coach (due to the limited capacity at the “City of Porcelain”, some groups will start with the panoramic tour). The tour starts travelling along the avenue were the old city walls were located. Today we can find unique monuments such as the bullring, the superb art-nouveau railway station, and two of the old wall gates, which were original entrances into the city. We will also see the Modern Art Museum, the Fine Arts Museum (Saint Pius V), the Music Palace and medieval bridges crossing the Turia Gardens (the former Turia riverbed). The tour continues towards the oldest part of the city, passing by the Town Hall Square, Lonja (UNESCO 1996), the Central Market and the Cathedral of Valencia. Lunch (no extra cost) at Malvarrosa beach. Departure to hotels.

 

Wednesday, July 21 (Euros 73.00): Guadalest-Benidorm Excursion: Departure from hotels to Guadalest. Visit of the twoo parts of the village. The first is the fortress itself; a huge area high on the mountain where the population lived within the walls and the only access being through the gate of St. José. The second isd the Moors houses that extend outward from the gate. There are now plenty of little streets and spuares which give Guadalest a very unique appeal. Free time for shopping at the many craft shops. Departure to restaurant at the coastal city of Benidorm. Lunch (no extra cost). Free time to visit beach and shops. Departure to Valencia by coach.

 

Thursday, July 22 (Euros 30.00): Valencia Historic City: Departure from hotels. The tour starts with a short panoramic tour to the old town. Then we will continue the visit on foot, visiting the art-nouveau Central Market and one of the most astonishing gothic civil buildings in the world, La Lonja or “Old Silk Exchange” declared a World Heritage monument by UNESCO in 1996. We will continue to the “round square”, a charming plaza where you can still experience an XVIII century environment with all kind of handcrafts, ceramics, wrought iron, souvenirs, etc. Next, the main façade of the National Ceramic Museum made of alabaster marble and on the way to the Cathedral we will see the most beautiful Spanish Baroque bell towers of Saint Catherine’s church. Visit to the Water Court. Every Thursday the Water Court meets at Valencia Cathedral door of the Apostles at the stroke of twelve mid-day. We will be witness of a verbal trial that has been performed for over 1000 years. Gathering eight farmers in charge to dissolve any conflict caused by the use of irrigating water. Free time at the Virgin Square. Lunch (no extra cost). Departure back to hotels.
