Erasmus Mundus programme in the European Union

Erasmus Mundus general rules about Students and Scholars scholarships by the European Commission. Academic year 2013-2014.

Without prejudice to high academic standards, in order to ensure geographical diversity among students/scholars, as compulsory requirement of the Erasmus Mundus programme, WOP-P Consortium must and shall respect the following basic criteria when selecting students/scholars for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship:
  • No more than two of the STUDENTS selected for an Erasmus Mundus Master Course (EMMC) scholarship should have the same nationality.
  • The number of scholarships awarded to scholars from the HEI (Higher European Institution) should cover a maximum duration of 3 months (i.e. equivalent to 6 scholarships of 2 weeks).
  • No scholar can be awarded a scholarship for more than 3 months (i.e. up to 6 scholarships of 2 weeks)

Category A grants for students have to be considered as "full scholarships" covering all necessary costs of the student during his/her study period in Europe. Please, check Tuition Fees and Participation Costs.
For the academic year 2013-2014, the amount granted of EM Category A grants for students covers the registration fees and other participation costs (€ 4000 per semester). The grant also offers a fee as contribution to travel, installation, visa related costs and any other type of costs (€ 8000) and a monthly payment of 1,000 Euro per each academic year (12 months). As WOP Master is a two year programme, the student will receive monthly payments during 24 months.
  • Who can ask for a Category A grant? A student who comes from a country OTHER THAN a European Union Country (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom) or from Norway, Iceland, Lichtenstein and who is not a permanent resident nor has carried out his/her main activity (studies, training and work) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in at least one of the mentioned countries in this paragraph. Additional scholarships should be made available for students from three geographical areas: “Western Balkans and Turkey (see number 1) ”, “Southern Neighbourhood Countries (see number 2 ) ” and “Eastern Neighbourhood Countries (see number 3) ”.
  •  This availability will depend on the Erasmus Mundus Budget for academic year 2013-2014.
  • The students commit themselves to participate in the master’s programme in accordance with the terms defined by the consortium in the Type A Student Agreement. Failure to do so could lead to the cancellation of the scholarship.
  • The students must spend their whole study period (120 credits ECTS) in at least two of the consortium partner countries (minimum 30 credits ECTS in each mobility). These two countries must be different form the country in which the grant holder has obtained his/her last university degree. The mandatory mobility periods cannot be replaced by virtual mobility, neither can take place in institutions not being part of the WOP Consortium.
  • If the EMMC consortium includes third-country partners (in case of WOP-P programme, the University of Guelph and the University in Brasilia), Category A scholarship holders can spend a training period (Internship) of a maximum of one trimester (i.e. 3 months or the equivalent of 15 ECTS credits) in these third countries (Canada and Brazil)  under the direct supervision of one of the consortium partners and only if this country is different from the student’s country of origin; periods in excess of this duration or spent in the students country of origin may not be covered by the EMMC scholarship.
