RESEARCH FACILITIES

H.P.L.C.

Our group has three specialised High performance liquid chromatrography to determine oxidative stress molecules such as reduced and oxidized glutathione, malondialdehyde and 8-hydroxy-2’-deoxyguanosine.

Confocal Microscopy

Our lab has confocal microscopy with a Leica TCS SP2 model. It has three Ar/HeNe/HeNe lasers offering high range of excitation. Multifotonic excitation is also available,  with a culture chamber fit together, allowing long experiments with the best result.

Cytometer

Fow cytometry is also avaible, with a (MODELO) we study many kinds of particles, such as cells, mitochondrias, etc. This cytometer can separate particles, using a shorting technique by fluorimetryc measurements.

Computer Lab

We have modern computers connected to the internet, using the Local Area Network of the University of Valencia, which has a hugh bandwidth and many subscriptions to scientific journals and specific software.

Lyophilizer

Lyophilization technique is one of the ideal methods of making preserving various kinds of biological products.

PCR Flow Chamber

PCR is one of our routine techniques, so we have specific equipments to perform it. For preparing the samples we use a specific flow chamber for preventing sample contamination.

Real Time PCR

Bio-rad iCycler allows to perform real time PCRs quantifying with more accuracy biological samples.

Culture Lab

Nowadays, we are culturing many cellular types, so we have a specific lab allowing sterile procedures and optimal conditions for cell grown, microscopic studies and cell storage.

GeneChip® Server

Recently, University of Valencia has acquired the GeneChip from Affymetrix Company. Our group has the opportunity to use this technology, to elucidate the expression of thousands of genes in any sample. This picture represents the LIMS SERVER, with 8 hard disks to store data information.

Microarray Scanner

The scanner is used to scan chips and to detect fluorescence marks.

Hybridization Oven

RNA samples are incubated for 16 hours at constant rpm and temperature in the hybridization oven.

Fluidics Station

This machine is used to wash and stain chips.

Scintillation β Counter

This equipment to measure radioactivity in samples is located in the Laboratory for Radioactive Isotopes in the Central Research Unit of the School of Medicine.

Ultracentrifugue

Our lab is also equiped with a Beckman ultracentrifuge with a speed up to 120.000 g. It is located in the Central Research Unit of the School of Medicine.

Imaging Lab

Our group has equipment to analyze digital images obtained from RNA gels, DNA gels and western blotting, and an invert fluorimetric microscope for cell studies with a digital video coupled with a computer for posterior analysis.

PET

User of "animal PET" Functions: Functional studies "in vivo" on a non-invasive, creating awareness of biochemical processes, monitored at the molecular level. Its use is spreading to many applications, from the development of new drugs, until the study of human diseases in animals (oncology, neurodegenerative diseases, ...) to characterize the changes of gene expression and phenotype by genetic manipulation. Location: Laboratory of the UCIM (Faculty of Medicine). Clinic Hospital Foundation. Valencia.
