La Iniciativa de Medicamentos Innovadores IMI 2, participada por la Comisión Europea i la industria farmacéutica, ha anunciado la preparación de una convocatoria urgente sobre Ébola, en los términos enumerados a continuación.

Final del plazo de presentación: tres semanas desde el inicio del plazo

Esquema de financiación: via rápida (fast-track), un procedimiento especial debido a la urgencia de la situación del brote de Ébola.

Temas de investigación:

• Topic 1: Vaccine development Phase I, II, and III

The project(s) should cover the design and implementation of Phase I, II, or III clinical development of vaccine candidates, including prime boost combinations against the Zaire strain of the Ebola virus which is responsible for the current epidemic.

• Topic 2: Manufacturing capability

The project(s) will work on scaling up the currently available production techniques to the necessary scale and will be fully compliant with good manufacturing practices (GMP) and biological safety level requirements.

• Topic 3: Stability of vaccines during transport and storage

The project(s) will develop tools and technologies to be able to distribute Ebola vaccines utilising existing vaccine deployment infrastructure while taking into account current stability features (e.g. the need for low temperature).

• Topic 4: Deployment and compliance of vaccination regimens

The project(s) will aim at facilitating the highest possible compliance with the vaccination regimen, for example by exploiting telecommunication and use of mobile apps.

• Topic 5: Rapid diagnostic tests

The project(s) will develop rapid diagnostics at acceptable costs and with high sensitivity and specificity to be deployed at decentralised healthcare facilities under conditions of minimal laboratory infrastructures to detect Ebola virus disease.
