Rafa Martí is Professor in the Statistics and Operations Research department at the University of Valencia, Spain.
His teaching is devoted to Statistics, Mathematical Programming, and Heuristic Optimization.
His research interest focuses on the development of metaheuristics for hard optimization problems.
He is co-author of the Scatter Search (Kluwer 2003) and The Linear Ordering Problem (Springer 2011) monographs,
and has secured an American patent.
Prof. Martí is currently Area Editor in the Journal of Heuristics
and Associate Editor in the Math. Prog. Computation, TOP, and the Int. Journal of Metaheuristics.
He has published a large number of JCR-indexed journal papers and coordinates the
Red HEUR research network on heuristic optimization. Martí is invited Professor at the University of Colorado (USA),
University of Molde (Norway), and University of Bretagne-Sud (France). Prof. Martí has participated in
several research projects with private companies in Spain (e.g., the Spanish railways company RENFE and
CajAstur Bank) as well as in the United States (OptTek Systems in Colorado and AT&T Research Labs in New Jersey).
Rafa has been teaching BCOR2500 both in Boulder, as a summer course, and in Valencia, as a global seminar, for the last years.
In this global seminar he complements his experience teaching this course, with his knowledge of the
Spanish main companies, providing the student with a full view of the Operations Management practice.
