Computing Cluster Servers

The team has a cluster of five servers: geeitema.uv.es, bayesiano.uv.es, mebospuma.uv.es, valimba.uv.es and gdisco.uv.es. The gdisco server is used to centralize user information. The geeitema server is the server that hosts the website and various management services. And the bayesian, mesbospuma and valimba servers are used for intensive computing. The latter servers are the ones that have the software and tools necessary to perform all the calculations required for our research.

Laboratory for R&D on particle detectors based on liquid noble gases (argon, xenon) at low temperature.

Data

Given our long standing relations with ESA and EUMETSAT we have a huge library of both real and syntetic time series of archived satellite products including (1) reflectance data (Quickbird, WorldView2, HyMap, SPOT, RapidEye, LandSat, VTG, MODIS and SEVIRI, IASI), and (2) Biophysical products from MODIS, COPERNICUS Global Land, MERIS and LSA SAF. Moreover, we have access to thematic maps and databases on land-cover and land-use (CORINE, SIOSE) and reference databases such as LUCAS and BIOSOIL.

Use of various software tools with which the tasks are carried out and which must be evaluated. There are a large number of them, both freely available and subscription-based, as well as through platforms. In all cases we already have the fundamental ones.

Immersive Simulation System

Immersive CAVE system. It allows to conduct sensation tests on people for training or evaluation of behaviours in real situations, through the simulation of the environment. It consists of 4 rear projection screens that form a cabin, capable to reproduce images in 3 dimensions. This system is located on the floating base of a 6 degrees of freedom Steward movement platform, so it can be moved and rotated at will. Inside the cab is an industrial seat, that the simulator operator gets on. Additionally, there is a computer system based on a high-performance computing cluster with 5 processing nodes and 4 latest-generation GPUs.

Liquid Chromatograph

Modular system composed of isocratic pump, quaternary pump, degasser, thermostatised column compartment, automatic injector and high sampling frequency diode array detector, controlled by Agilent 1200 series data station. Fluorescence and refractive index detectors are also available.

MICHROM

Software for the measurement of chromatographic peaks of various asymmetries, retention modelling for hydro-organic and micellar reversed-phase liquid chromatography, as well as optimisation of chromatographic methods. It contains numerous functions for retention modelling and chromatographic resolution. The software was commercialised on an international level.

Mid-range simulator

Simulation system composed of 2 55-inch 3-D LED TVs, industrial seat, industrial joysticks, keypads and 2 degrees of freedom CKAS platforms. Additionally, it connects to a Supercomputer with 4 latest generation NVidia GTX 670 graphics cards. The result allows to simulate any environment with a high degree of realism.

QCEXVAL Computing Unit

The resources available to our research group can be grouped into our own resources and those of free access offered by the Universitat de València, such as the Lluis Vives and Tirant high-performance computing servers, managed by the Information Systems Service. Within our own servers, we have two computing clusters: the first one is composed of equipment with Intel i7, Intel i9 and Intel Xeon processors, as well as two Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080Ti GPUs, consisting of 28 nodes that provide 456 processors and 1332 GB of RAM. The second cluster, newly acquired, consists of three machines with AMD Threadripper PRO 3975WX processors, interconnected via a high-speed network (10 GB/s), providing a total of 192 processors and 768 GB of RAM. This is rounded off by a NAS backup system with 15 TB of storage space.

Rack Raid Cabinet for virtualisation of IT systems

It is a high-performance mass storage computer system, with a set of redundant disks that allows a 24-hour service to be offered. The technical characteristics of the equipment are as follows:

Statistical analysis

The UV Statistics Unit works with experts in the use of computer equipment and specific software. The main software used for data analysis is the free R Software.

System for the evaluation of roadside equipment and image processing systems

A steel gantry with a span of 18 m and a gauge of 550 m, located on the CV 35 road, is available for the evaluation of traffic monitoring systems in real conditions of luminosity and traffic. The gantry consists of 3 mobile CCTV cameras of different quality, an infrared spotlight, an electronic toll sensor and a magnetic sensor located under the gantry. The information from the systems is sent to an ERU and from there to the laboratory from where images are received in real time and the installed equipment can be controlled.
