Language Centre
The Language Centre of the University of Valencia is made available to the University community and the general public to help meet foreign language needs.
General Courses
From October to June, the Language Centre offers 90-hour courses for University of Valencia students who wish to expand their language skills. The Language Centre offers both morning and afternoon classes, thereby reaching the greatest number of students regardless of university timetables. Students have the option to attend class twice a week on Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday, or just attend one day on Friday morning or afternoon, or on Saturday morning.
These courses follow the guidelines of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, widely adopted by the majority of European universities. As long as the minimum standards of the course have been met, the student will be able to obtain a certificate that will indicate the number of hours, the nature and level of the course and their performance.
Once the course has ended, students will be able to take the accreditation test of their course level. A certificate is issued if passed
Intensive Courses
During the months of July, August and September, the Language Centre offers 60-hour intensive courses. Students who participate in intensive courses will attend twenty 3-hour sessions. These courses are specifically designed for students who are either between two levels and wish to consolidate their language skills, or those who want to maximise their learning of a language in a short period of time.
Likewise, if the minimum requirements of the course have been met, at the end of the course students will be issued a certificate that will indicate the number of hours, the nature and level of the course and their performance.
Exam Preparation Courses
In the October-June period the Language Centre offers preparation courses for the University of Cambridge Local Examinations, TOEFL and IELTS. The courses with the highest demand are those which prepare for the University of Cambridge First Certificate and Certificate in Advanced English. Students who choose to prepare for this type of exam will take a 90-hour course and will obtain a certificate on successful completion
English for Specific Purposes
The Language Centre is now offering courses that adapt to the necessities of a specific group with the same needs for learning a language. Some of these courses include English for Health Sciences, Legal English and other courses depending on the demand.
Specific courses for High Academic Performance Groups are also offered. These courses do not have an established number of hours, as it may vary according to the characteristic of the course and the students’ requirements.
Foreign Language Certification Tests (PACLE)
Language assessment is one of the services offered at the Language Centre. The PACLE tests determine the level of competence in a foreign language. The Language Centre creates and evaluates these tests, which consist of five parts: grammar, vocabulary, and oral and written expression. Once the tests is completed, the Language Centre issues an accreditation certificate that indicates the student’s level, with a description of the skills included the correspondent level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
