A Universitat de València’s seminar shows the latest musical management techniques

Econcult – Unidad de Investigación en Economía de la Cultura y Turismo – in the Universitat de València’s Interuniversity Institute for Local Development, IIDL, has organized a seminar. The encounter is focused on analyzing and spreading some of the most innovative experiences in the musical management field.

 

The seminar is called ‘Grupos musicales: nuevos modelos de gestión. En la frontera entre el activismo, la gestión amateur y la profesionalización’ (Musical bands: new management models. On the border between activism, amateur management and professionalization). It is going to take place today, May 21st and 22nd (from 10:00 to 14:00) at Centro de Creación Contemporánea las Naves.

Recent study by Econcult stress the relevance of cultural organizations as a factor of social and economic innovation, and their on regions’ wealth. After the review of innovative ideas in the Valencian audiovisual sector carried out in January (http://9audiovisualvalencia.com/), Econcult, which is directed by Pau Raussell, suggests now to analyze management of music bands.

The cases to be studied at the seminar are iniciatives providing innovative approaches on aspects related to production places, proliferation of distribution channels, new mediation and marketing ideas, new financing options, new spaces and models of staying in contact with audiences, among other topics.

Innovative marketing and communication ideas are going to be presented by The Orchard, Barret Films, Water Tapes, and SFE Songsforever, while Gazela Producciones, Sedajazz, El Tenderete, and LaCasaCalba are talking about ways of producing and distributing.

Models for collaborative financing and non-cash exchanges are going to be presented by Arthur Caravan from the cultural associaton called Ameba, Benimaclet Entra, and Fanfunding.

New audiences is a topic to be tackled by Malatesta Records, Spirit of St. Louis, Enclavedeblog.com and Cantautor al Metro, while the different option of tours and concerts are going to be presented by The Dirt Tracks, the music store Unión Musical de Valencia (C/ Guillem de Castro), and the production company Yesterday and Today.

The seminar is going to be chaired by Vicente Martínez, co-director of the postgraduate course of legal and business management at Universitat de València, and José Mª Nácher, director of the research unit of UV’s Investigación Estrategias de Turismo y Ocio.
