Alboraia’s House of Culture hosts, starting next Friday 19 September ‘Geographical Miscellaneous’ by Joaquín Bérchez. The photographical exhibition, which captures Valencian landscape from his particular optics as a photographer and full-university professor in History of the Arts (UV) has been organized by the Office of the Vice-principal for Territorial Projection and Participation.

The exhibition’s opening act took place last Friday 19 September at 18:00 at the House of Culture in this locality in the Horta Nord. Joaquín Bérchez was accompanied during the presentation of his photographical exhibition by the Vice-Principal for Territorial Projection and Participation Jorge Hermosilla and Alboraia’s Major Miguel Chavarría and other members of the local corporation.

Alboraia’s Major praised the University of Valencia’s professor’s work and encouraged Alboraia’s neighbours to come and enjoy the exhibition at the House of Culture. Additionally, he thanked the University of Valencia for its work and presence in municipalities and committed that: thanks to the collaborating convention we signed with the University of Valencia we can host exhibitions like Joaquín Bérchez’s.

Vice-Principal Jorge Hermosilla explained that ‘Geographical Miscellaneous’ obeys to the will and compromise of the University of Valencia of being present in the territory next to the local society. “Bérchez capturates the surrounding through its basic elements: the water, the river, La Albufera, the sea... His photographs illustrate the passage of time at the territoriy as they show the events that modify and renew our landscape”, highlighted the Vice-Principal.

Joaquín Bérchez has transformed his pictures of the Valencian landscape into another tool for contemplation and reflection on the territory. The exhibition collects panoramic photographs from Ademuz to La Albufera, the interior and the coast, details of vines, orange trees, palm trees, olives, rice fields... which happen through a juxtaposition of old and modern in an anthropized territory, modelled by human activity. From the torsion of a stump in Utiel, from the rests of a Roman aqueduct in Chelva to the calm water of the Mediterranean, Valencian landscape appears represented with a new vision through Bérchez’s eyes. The professor, once again, captivates us with vignettes of our geography our landscape. Another pretext to evocate the recognition and sentiment towards our territory and its amassed landscape values and patrimonies.

The exhibition will be opened to the public Monday to Friday from 9 to 14 and from 16 to 21 at Alboraia’s House of Culture until 24 September. Afterwards, its itinerary will continue in other localities of the Valencian province such as Gandia or Cortes de Pallás.
