The architect Miguel Arraiz will give today Tuesday, 21 March, the conference ‘Arte urbano como herramienta de integración social’ (Urban art as a social integration tool) at the Carme Centre of Valencia. The talk takes part in the programme of the Office of the Vice-Principal for Culture and Equality of the Universitat de València ‘Art i ment’. It takes place at the Valencian museum because is the HQ of the falla ‘Renaixement’ created by this architect and the fallero artist David Moreno.
This free access conference, which will begin at 19:00h, is about the possibilities that urban art offers by the interaction of associations and communities. And this will be made throughout specific samples of collaboration put into practice by these platforms with young people who are in risk of social exclusion and other entities, analysing their results: success and failures. New technologies strengthen the abilities of people who have larger social integration tools through the culture.
The architect Miguel Arraiz is founder of Pink Intruder, an artistic platform for the realisation of urban interventions that has planned artistic projects since 2000 by the connection of creators of different disciplines and researchers of the public art. The latest one is the work ‘Renaixement’ that was on display at the desert of Nevada in the Burning Man. It is an alternative outdoor festival that shares with Fallas Festival the worship of fire.
‘Renaixement’ will survive to the ‘cremà’ on 19 March and it could be observed in the gothic claustrum of the Carme Centre throughout the month of March. Since Fallas has been declared as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, the monument pays homage to the Lonja.
The programme ‘Art i Ment’
The programme ‘Art i Ment’ is a sociocultural intervention project promoted by the Office of the Vice-Principal for Culture and Equality of the Universitat de València. It is about a programme that links psychology with education and esthetical experience to promote self-esteem, motivation, creativity and artistic sensitivity in children of 10 or 11 years old, an important age for their development. The programme is being evaluated with a test and interviews designed by professionals. All the activities are free and the enrolment was closed quickly, a success that leads to its continuity next academic year.
The setting up of this programme has been possible thanks to the General Foundation of the UV and the implication of a great number of entities: Caixa Popular, Per Amor a l’Art Foundation, Antonia Mir Foundation, Berklee College of Music of Valencia, the Faculty of Psychology of the UV (Master’s Degree in Drug Dependence: Research, Treatment and Drug Pathologies), the Professional School of Music of Valencia, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Associació ÀMBIT, Fundación por la Justicia, IVAJ (Generalitat Jove) and the public schools Cervantes, Dr. Oloriz, Primer Marqués del Turia, Mestalla and Nuestra Señora de los Desamparados.
