Guillermo Mínguez, from Universitat de València, winner from the XI Premio Científico Técnico Ciudad de Algemesí for young researchers

The jury of Ciudad de Algemesí awards.

A work of Guillermo Mínguez Espallargas, researcher from Universitat de València, about the control of CO2 gases has been the winner from the XI Premio Científico Técnico Ciudad de Algemesí for young researchers. Guillermo Mínguez develops his work in the Institute for Molecular Science (ICMOL), which has obtained recently the accreditation for excellence “Maria de Maeztu”, under the direction of professor Eugenio Coronado.

The work awarded in this edition of the scientist technical prize belongs to inorganic chemistry and is about the modification of the spin transition through a selective absorption of CO2. The work of Guillermo Mínguez analyses one of the most intrinsic magnetic characteristics of substance (like spin transition) of a crystalline polymer that has designed its form ant that favour the formation of internal cavities where molecules of CO2 gases can be located. The design and the analysis of this substance can have a very prominent application in CO2 filters making , a gas which has a very important impact in atmosphere pollution and is one of the factors that prevail in climatic change.
Other two researchers of the University of Valencia have been awarded in this call. Mercè Gomar (UV-ERI BIOTECMED) has received the third prize for her study about the analysis of the Functional Transcriptional Factor in answer to ambient stress of yeast.  On the other hand, Alba Sanchis (INCLIVA) won the first mention of honour for a work developed in strange illness area.
In this edition of Ciudad de Algemesí Awards more than 27 work of different specialities have been presented. The scientist award is 5,000 euros.
Award for the best investigation of a young of La Ribera
The prize for the best investigation of a young boy of La Ribera has been to Jorge Lorente Giner, a young from Algemesí, for his work about noise elimination in controlled environments.
The prize for young researchers of La Ribera, provided with 1,500 euros, focuses in the process od adaptive signal for multichannel sound by using high performances information technology and belongs to signal and communications  theory area.
The jury
The jury is formed by doctors Francisco J. Mora Mas, principal of the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia; Pilar Campins, vice-principal for Research and Science Policy of the Universitat de València; José Vicente Castell, manager of the Investigation Foundation of Hospital Universitario La Fe; José Pío Beltrán, delegate of CSIC in Valencia and manager of Reproductive Biology and Plants Biotechnology of IBMCP; doctors Salut Botella and Santiago Felici Castell, as well as city councillors of Culture, Pere Blanco, and Youth, Palma Egido, and the major Marta Trenzano. Doctor Jaume Segura has behaved as secretary of the board.
The board has considered that must be given three prizes remunerated to the works presented by José Ramón Cabrero Antonino, Marc Coronado Puchau and Mercé Gomar Alba.
On the other hand, mentions of honour are to Alba Sanchis Juan, Vicent Martí Centelles, Ximo García Domínguez and the work presented by Luisa Liu Xu and Fernando Fornés Sebastià.
