On Tuesday (12 September) Casa de la Cultura de l’Alcúdia will host the 2nd Congress on Landscape, Tourism and Innovation, which is organised by the Universitat de València and the Valencian Bureau of Tourism. Its objective is to improve the planning and management of the Valencian tourist offer and achieve a sustainable touristic development.

Landscape and Tourism are two closely related concepts, a synergy that will be revealed in the second edition of the Congress on Landscape, Tourism and Innovation that aims to visualise and communicate the different experiences, actions and touristic products that are being originated from the different Tourism Promotion and Governance Plans throughout the Valencian Community, and to foster the creation of a network among all the actors involved in these plans - local administration, entrepreneurs, university - with the aim of promoting cross-sectoral collaboration.

The session will be inaugurated at 10:00 in Casa de la Cultura de l’Alcúdia by the Autonomic Secretary of Tourism, Francesc Colomer; the Mayor of l’Alcúdia, Andreu Salom and the vice-principal for Territorial Projection and Participation, Jorge Hermosilla. The full university professor of the Department of Marketing and Market Research of the Universitat de València, Amparo Cervera, will give the opening conference, which will be about the management of the tourist opinion for the enhancement of the territorial resources.

This congress will host the presentation of the Guide of the Plan for Tourism and Territory of the Universitat de València given by José María Nácher (Department of Applied Economics UV). The meeting will also serve to show the strategy of the touristic product of the Valencian Bureau of Tourism. This will be explained by the head of marketing and tourism communication of the Valencian Bureau of Tourism, Carmen Sahuquillo. The agenda of the congress also includes two round tables that will analyse the role of the public administration in the tourism promotion, as well as the experiences and future perspectives of the Tourism Promotion and Governance Plans.

It will be a congress in which the exchange of ideas and the dialogue will serve to contribute to the planning and management of the Valencian tourist offer as a whole, to increase the quality of touristic services and their adaptation to market evolution, to maintain and improve competitiveness and achieve a sustainable touristic development that guarantees the maximum contribution of this activity to the well-being of the Valencian society.

The coordinator of the congress, Walesska Schlesinger (Department of Marketing and Market Research), has assured that it is a conference ‘to know what is being done at a territorial level in the Valencian community and to give visibility to the tourist plans in order to generate synergies, ideas to improve, reflections and collaboration actions between institutions, companies, university and local administration’.

The Mayor of l’Alcúdia, Andreu Salom, has explained that the close collaboration that his town hall has with the Universitat de València has given provide the local society and the region of La Ribera as a whole with the opportunity ‘to have access to resources and knowledge that until now have been only available in the city of Valencia’. He has added that ‘this is nothing but a new example of that good work that is being promoted by the Office of the Vice-Principal for Territorial Projection and Participation and that is important to support our territory and to make the Universitat de València considered as an heritage of all the citizens’.

The director of the Tourist Territorial Strategy of the Valencian Bureau of Tourism, Josep Gisbert, has highlighted that ‘the aim of this pioneer initiative in the Valencian Community is to join all the workers of the sector to promote a new tourist story’. According to Gisbert, this will be a story based on ‘the Mediterranean, on promoting the authenticity and singularity through new tourist products and experiences, on encouraging the hospitality, sustainability as well as on increasing the quality and professionality’.
