Music, theatre, contemporary arts and solidarity at the University’s Welcoming Festival

The University of Valencia organizes a new edition of the Welcoming Festival with a wide range of cultural activities to celebrate the beginning of the school year. Music, theatre, contemporary art and solidarity complete an intense programme, which opens this Saturday at the Casa de la Cultura (Culture House) in Burjassot.

According to Daniel Gonzalez Serisola, delegate of the rector for Students, ‘the Welcoming Festival is an initiative to celebrate the new academic year and, hence, favour the approach of the sociocultural activities proposed by the University, both to the students and to the rest of the university community and citizenship’.


Music is one of the main axis of the festival, with different proposals concreted in two welcoming concerts at the Sala Salome (old Sala Noise). On Thursday 23 October with the pop rock of Senior and Cor Brutal, the pop folk of Els Amics de les Arts and, on Tursday 30 with Second and Londoner artists My Sad Captains.


Under collaboration with Burjassot’s Hall, on Saturday 4 October at the House of Culture within the municipality the acting of Fuel Fandango, Niños Mutantes, Varry Brava and La Suite Bizarre will take place. This concert is included within the recent celebration of the 25 anniversary at Burjassot-Paterna Campus.


This year and as a novelty, the Welcoming Festival will include three night concerts at the Jardin Botanico: Thursday 16 October with Depedro, musical project by Jairo Zabala, on Friday 17 October with El Meister, Javier Vielba’s alter ego (vocalists Arizona Baby and Corizonas), and Friday 31 October Tórtel with their new album ‘La Gran Prueba’.
Pequeño Mulo + Mr. Dean Inn will become the protagonists of the concert at the Doctor Peset Residence Hall on Friday 24 October. The festival will come to an end on Thursday 13 November at the Loco Club with Otoño and La Trocamba Matanusca, bands selected through the Pop Rock bag of the University of Valencia.


The Welcoming Festival will also integrate the 17 Mostra d’Arte Públic de Joves Creadors (17 exhibition of Public Art by Young Creators), with seven selected interventions which will be opened to visits from October 20 to 24 in different areas of the Tarongers Campus. The 19 Exhibition of University Theatre will take place on the same dates at the Sala Matilde Salvador at the Cultural Centre of La Nau, where Ourense University’s Theatre, the UPV’s Theatre room and Ensayo, theatre group of the University of Valencia.


As in former editions, the University of Valencia supports Pobreza Zero within the frame of the celebration of World’s Day for the eradication of poverty on 17 October, with the economic recollection of the concerts and in institutional collaboration in sensitization.
