The Universitat de València is among the best 10 universities in the world in Inorganic and Nuclear Chemistry, Image Science and Photographic Technology, Particle Physics, Remote Sensing, and Reproductive Biology, according to the ranking created by the Center for World University Rankings. Furthermore, the Universitat de València is the Spanish higher education institution with the greatest number of subjects among the top ten positions.

The CWUR 2017 Subjects ranking classifies the universities in 227 theme categories of science and social science. The basis is the number of research articles in top-level international journals. The data comes from Clarivate Analytics (before Propiedad Intelectual y Ciencia by Thomson Reuters). This is the company in charge of elaborating the annual list Higly Cited Researchers, with the most acclaimed researchers in the world.

According to the classification, the Universitat de València gains the second place in Inorganic and Nuclear Chemistry. The first place is for Nanjing University. It also has the fourth place in Reproductive Biology in a list that leads Harvard University. Moreover, regarding Image Science and Photographic Technology, it occupies the eighth place; and finally in matters of Remote Sensing, the UV has the ninth position.

The fact of having five subjects in the top ten positions the Valencian academic institution among the best 100 universities in the world.

Furthermore, the Universitat de València is the Spanish higher education institution with the greatest number of subjects among the top ten positions of the ranking created by the Center for World University Rankings with a HQ in Arabia Saudi. The other Spanish universities that are included in this ranking are the Universitat de Barcelona (with 4 subjects among the best 10 positions) and the Politécnica de Cataluña and the Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona (with 3 and 2 subjects in the top ten of CWUR, respectively). With only one subject among the best 10 positions of the ranking are the Carlos III University of Madrid and the universities of Granada, Castilla-La Mancha and Navarre.

This year 2017 is the first one in which the CWUR classification follows a criteria related to subjects.
