The Universitat joins the challenge to recycle about 4,000 glass kilos

The University of Valencia joins “The Vidrio Games- El Reto del Vidrio” , a competition launched by Ecovidrio, the non-profit organisation that is responsible for glass waste recycle in Spain. In this second phase, which begins this Monday and will be prolonged until 28 February, students of University of Valencia and Universitat d’Alacant join the competition to promote the recycle of glass containers in young people and to try to recycle 4,050 and 1,518 glass kilos respectively.


In the first phase of the initiative, students of Universitat Politècnica de València, la Universidad Miguel Hernández of Elche and the Universitat Jaume I of Castellón competed during three weeks to recover more than 8,700 kilos of glass containers, the same that 20,000 containers.  The same way that in this second phase, to each university was determined an objective according to the number of students. Thus, The Universitat Jaume I of Castellón tried to recover 3,943 (8,960 containers), la Universidad Miguel Hernández University of Elche 510 kilos (1,158 glass containers) and Universitat Politècnica de València 4,340 kilos (9,864 containers). 
In vice-principal of undergraduate studies and Language Policy of Universitat de València words,  “it is necessary make aware all the society, especially, university community, about the importance of glass recycling to contribute planet sustainability” Now we have ahead an important challenge: to pick up more than 4,000 kilos of recycled glass, and I am secure that with all the team which supports this initiative we will get it.” 
For his part, Roberto Fuentes, area management of Ecovidrio, has added: “This campaing is about make aware of the importance of glass recycling to environment and, even, to the economy. We have focused in university area because it is very important to the learning and the education of future professionals who must work on the basis of fundamental values like environmental.”
An award for everyone
The winner of the five universities will be confirm by the end of February, when the second phase has finished and students from five universities have participated. The winner will be who beats, with a bigger percent, the established objective.  The university that win will receive an award valued in 5,000 € that in Universitat de València case will be allocated to a raffle of 10 bicycles and 20 responsible consumption set in La Tenda de la Universitat between the campaign participating who have been photographed recycling glass in the container located next to Faculty of Law, in Tarongers Campus, and share it in their social networks with the hashtag #THEVIDRIOGAMES_UV.
This initiative has been motivated by Ecovidrio, and promoted by the support of Valencian Government; Environmental Voluntary Service, Health and Safety and the Environment Service,  SeDi Information and Promotion Service of Universitat de València. 
Ecovidrio has developed a survey in each university and the students have been who have suggested the awards the like to receive.   On the occasion of “The vidrio Games- El reto del Vidrio”, the organisation has set up in each campus a container, specially designed to this action, with a digital sign that counts the number of containers that people deposit and an screen that emit encourage messages to stimulate young people to recycle.  Moreover, some Ecovidrio responsibles will invigorate the campaign by giving the students bags to transport the glass to the container, merchandising and some packs of experiences.
