The University of Valencia participates in an innovative project for promoting innovations based on sustainability at the university campuses, which will be developed during one year and that it has a global budget of 200,000 euros funded by the Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) dedicated to the Climate Change (Climate-KIC), created by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology, which is part of the University of Valencia.

To carry out this project under the institutional programme ‘Sustainable Campus’, the University of Valencia has the support of the Science Park.

The project deals with the initiatives related to the sustainability of the university campuses, these are oriented to introduce improvements in different action lines such as food or sustainable mobility. “The university campus are spaces where scientists, students and entrepreneurs meet and for this reason the goal of this new project is that the university campuses become pilot zones where to test new technologies and new business models for transferring to society innovative and sustainable solutions”, said Clara Martínez, Vice-Principal of Sustainability and Planning. In this context, the initiative EVOMOBILE should be highlighted, the living lab of sustainable mobility of the University of Valencia that has the support of the Programme for the Promotion of Innovative Ecosystems of the International Campus of Excellence VLC/CAMPUS, funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports, and which has been acknowledged by the Renault Foundation and by the Club of Excellence in Sustainability with the Best Practice in Sustainable Mobility 2013 Award.

Climate-KIC is a public-private partnership where education and entrepreneurship are combined with innovation for establishing alliances and common projects at European level around the climate change challenges. It is the most important initiative of climate innovation of the European Union and one of the first Communities for Knowledge and Innovation created by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) in 2010.

The EIT is a body of the European Union that has as main objective to improve the capability of Europe for innovating through the integration of the knowledge triangle -research, education and innovation- and the creation of new solutions and business models that adapt quickly to the new needs of society. One of the keystones of the EIT activity, through the KICs, is to give support to innovation in existing companies and to create new opportunities of business that guarantee an appropriate access to funding while at the same time a real change of mentality towards entrepreneurship culture is promoted.
