Organising authorities and students participating in the Inclusive Campus 2014, in the Jardí Botànic de la Universitat de València.

The UV and the Universitat Politecnica de Valencia host the programme “Campus Inclusivo-Campus sin Límites 2014” (Inclusive Campus-Without Limits Cmpus 2014), from 21 to 29 July, an activity of VLC/CAMPUS, Valencia International Campus of Excellence. This year’s programme includes, for the first time, the participation of both disabled and non-disabled students with the purpose of favouring real social integration in an inclusive environment.

Twenty students have been selected; fourteen of them have different disabilities such as Asperger syndrome, ADHD or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, blindness, deafness, reduced mobility, among others.

The inauguration of the conferences, which will be attended by the principal of the UV Esteban Morcillo and the principal of the Universidad Politecnica de Valencia Francisco Mora along with José Pío Beltrán CSIC Institutional Coordinator in the Valencian Community, will take place in the Concert Hall Joan Plaça of the Botanical Garden of the UV tomorrow Tuesday 22 July at 10:30 a.m.

The event will also be attended by representatives of the foundations ONCE and REPSOL, as well as autonomic authorities and other organizations and associations related to the integration of people with functional diversity.

Apart from providing with the mutual knowledge of disabled and non-disabled youngsters’ realities, this Inclusive Campus aims to give to the disabled pre-university student an opportunity to know first-hand the university life. Other more specific goals of the programme are: encouraging that this collective does not abandon their studies after the secondary education; promoting the adaptation of systems, methods and educative materials; and implementing the universal accessibility as a tool of social inclusion.

Thus, the initiative is structured in the celebration of different formative and informative events, and with interest visits for future students; and it has the support of the “Unitat per a la Integració de Persones amb Discapacitat” (Unit for the Integration of Disabled People), within the General Foundation of the UV; the office of Politics for the Excellence (OPEX) of the UV; the attention to disabled students Service of the UPV (CEDAT FOUNDATION).

The organization of this Campus, free for those students who have been selected, is possible thanks to the agreement among the Ministeri d’Educació, Cultura y Deporte (Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport) and the foundations ONCE and REPSOL.
