The XXIX Universitat d’Estiu de Gandia, which has got a great success in attendance, ended last Friday.

The XXIXth edition of the summer school Universitat d’Estiu de Gandia has been ‘Una mar mentida i certa. Cinema i coneixement’. A total of 600 students have attended the 22 courses scheduled for this edition. Most of them have been focused on analyzing the current events through cinema. The closing ceremony started last Friday at 20:00 at Casa de la Marquesa.

‘Cine, pensamiento y educación’, ‘Retrato de la sociedad de Dorian Gray’, ‘La imagen, la realidad y nosotros: ¿qué nos cuenta el cine actual?’ o ‘Escuchar la imagen: aproximación a la música cinematográfica’ were some of the courses’ titled focused on the cinema. There have been others about interesting topics like ‘Formación en igualdad’, ‘Formación funcional y pragmática clínica en afasias’ or ‘Técnicas para no perder los papeles: ficheros y archivos electrónicos’.

Josep Montesinos, director of the summer school, has stated the big success regarding attendance of this edition: ‘There have been 600 students from different places like Castilla La Mancha, Asturias, Cataluya, and Madrid; but also there have been people from Gandia, from South America, or Africa… all of them have attended the courses willing to learn, take part and enjoy through cinema.’

Every evening, at 20:00, was the time for the round tables about the current events. They have managed to gather a hundred people every evening. Many screening have been shown at 22:30 at Jardín de la Marquesa as well. The first week, films were devoted to American comedy; the second week they focused on European comedy.

The director stresses that this edition may be considered a success, ‘we close this edition satisfied with our lecturers and students’ opinion, with the warm welcome of the city of Gandia.’ He adds that ‘the city council of Gandia and Universitat de València are willing to continue with the summer school in this city.’ 

Closing ceremony

The closing ceremony of the Gandia’s summer school is taking place today at 20:00. During the first part of this ceremony, the Vice-Principal for Participation and Territorial Projection at UV, Jorge Hermosilla, the representative of the city council of Gandia for Education, Marta Cháfer, and the summer school’s director, Josep Montesionos, are going to give a speech.

The second part will screen the short film titled Abierto por wisky, which is the result of the no-author cinema workshop carried out during the course ‘Retrato de la sociedad de Dorian Gray. Belleza y degradación social en el cine’.
