The Organic Law 6/2001, of 21 December, for Universities enables the Universities to teach courses leading to the obtaining of other degrees different from the official degrees which are those that have a recognised validity in all the State territory.
In this sense, the Royal Decree 1393/2007, of 29 October, by which it is established the planning of the official university courses, states in the eleventh additional disposition that the universities, in exercise of their autonomy, will be able to teach other courses leading to the obtaining of other degrees different from those of undergradudate, master's degree and doctorate.
The issuing of these degrees is carried out in a way determined by each university, without its denomination nor its format may lead to confusion with the official degrees.
By virtue of rights the University of Valencia has regulated its own postgraduate studies and specialisation studies, and has established the different typologies of degrees in which its curriculum is structured.
The regulation governing in the University of Valencia its own postgraduate studies and specialisation studies was approved by the 83/2007 Agreement of the Governing Council, in 26 April, modified by the 98/2009 Agreement of the Governing Council, in 27 May.
In accordance with the state above, the degrees, diplomas or certificates of the University of Valencia corresponding to its own postgraduate studies may be:
- Master's Degrees
- Postgraduate university diplomas
- Postgraduate certificates
Additionally, the diplomas or certificates of the University of Valencia corresponding to its own specialisation studies may be:
- Professional university specialisation diplomas
- Specialised certificates
Additionally, it should be mentioned that these studies may be object of recognition, up to 15% of the total credits of the official degree, in accordance with what is established by Royal Degree 1393/2007, to those students that whenever the comission for coordination of master's degree reports positively the corresponding application.

These entities are in charge of the tasks related to the pre-registration, enrolment and organisation of the specific and specialisation degree studies.
Nevertheless, certain functions relative to grans and specific aids calls, as well as the issuing of students and PDI certificates for these specific studies of the Universitat, are carried out from the Student Services of the Universitat de València, seated in the Office of the Principal building, Avda. Blasco Ibáñez, 13 - Valencia.
