Chemistry is the science that studies the composition, synthesis, properties, behaviour, and reactivity of matter. It analyses the properties of all kinds of inorganic, organic and biological material compounds and aspects related to change and reactivity. It includes research into the structures and mechanisms of the chemical transformations and the synthesis of new compounds, as well as the development of tools for analysis. Due to its ability to constantly innovate, it has always had a huge impact on progress by manufacturing products and technologies designed for all of the fields of activity of human beings. Therefore, chemical science plays an important role in the protection of health and the environment, the enhancement of hygienic and sanitary conditions, qualitative and quantitative improvements in food production and the manufacturing of new and cheaper materials that contribute towards life quality improvement. Further down the line, its main focus will be the following four areas of general interest: life, the environment, nanomaterials and energy.
 

Practical laboratory sessions represent 40% of each semester’s lecture hours.

Within the optional subjects, students are given the opportunity to carry out external internships (6 credits), which serve as a first contact with the work sector.

The degree’s final project can either be carried out at one of the departments that are affiliated with the Faculty of Chemistry by means of a research project, or in public and private companies and institutions that have signed an agreement with the University of Valencia.
