A production by COMPANYIA MICALET THEATRE

Author: Rodolf Sirera

Directed by: Joan Peris

With Pilar Almeria and Cristina Garcia

A psychological thriller revolving around the role of the theatre in the theatre itself and the role of theatre in life.

Paris, end of the 18th century. Gabrielle de Beaumont is a popular actress that is invited by a marchioness with outlandish habits to visit her in her palace. She will be tasked there with performing a theatrical play about the death of Socrates that was written by marchioness herself. She will realise soon that it is a trap set by the marchioness to subject her to a cruel experiment.

What we have here is the most translated and edited work of Rodolf Sirera. It was originally written to have two actors performing, but this staging will count with two great Valencian actresses ─ Pilar Almeria and Cristina Garcia. El verí del teatre, produced by Companyia Micalet Theatre and directed by Joan Peris, intends to start a cycle of women bringing life to great characters that were initially written to be performed by men.

The author Rodolf Sirera reflects on El verí del teatre about art and life, fiction and truth, artist freedom or submission to power.
