The artist Toni Colomina pays tribute to The Beatles in his pictorial and sculpture exhibition which will be open this Friday, 15 February, at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Valencia (Tarongers Avenue, 4). The exhibition is entitled WITH THE BEATLES and presents the last works of the artist with his peculiar style “rotten pop”.

Although The Beatles career originated various years before, is in 1963 with the recording of their first two albums, when the Beatlemania emerged among their followers. Thus 2013 is the year when is celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of the emergence of the most important musical expression of pop condition.

This phenomenon that intoxicated the masses and which inspired later artistic movements, has deserved great consideration by Colomina who declare it as one of the most influential manifestations of the second half of the 20th century. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, the quartet of Liverpool, could be considerate in this respect as the personification of avant-garde ideals, as they were able to extend their influence in social and cultural revolutions that happened especially since the 60s.

WITH THE BEATLES is composed of a dozen pieces, paintings, some of them of large size, and many sculptures in papier-mache. Taking as a reference the themes which define the music and life career of The Beatles, their lyrics, their melodies, Eurythmics and correspondences, but also their experiences, anecdotes and statements, Colomina establishes a series of works that contain the peculiarities of each song or manifestations of their main characters and the evocations which cause to the listener, in this case spectator.
