The University of Valencia, through the Office of the Vice-Principal for Territorial Projection and Participation, maintains the strategy of being present in the Valencian territory through the organisation of activities in towns and regions, and the collaboration of university specialists, as for example the exhibition of Chera’s Natural Park - Sot de Chera and its immediate environment. The study field of the exhibition refers to a representative space of the Valencian inland, marked out by the Reatillo basin, the last tributary on the right, of the Turia river, and by the mountain range that surround it. The natural heritage of this territory is recognised by a group of administrative institutions (Chera’s Natural Park - Sot de Chera, the Community Importance Place of Sierra del Negrete and Parque Geológico de Chera [Chera’s Geologic Park] - Sot de Chera) that emphasise its undeniable values regarding its geology, flora and fauna. Its strategic location between the Requena-Utiel Meseta and the Turia valley, as well as its function as a border between different kingdoms during the Middle Ages and the Modern Age, are arguments of the richness of its historical and cultural heritage, in which an important set of medieval defensive architecture stands out. All this has resulted in the recent addition of economic possibilities derived from an interior tourism, which demands an appropriate management and valuation of its undeniable environmental and heritage assets, to the traditional agricultural activities.
