The First World War in European and North American literatures
The First World War in European and North American literatures

These conferences will explore the armed conflict as a topic, space and character in the literary production of the main countries involved in it.

Within the interdisciplinary geographical framework of literatures of Germany, France, Britain, Italy and the United States, and combining different approaches, including drama, poetry and fiction, besides the critical approaches derived from cultural studies, communications are expected to exemplify the aesthetic construction of the Great War by contemporary authors to the conflict, as well as those after them, who grew as direct witnesses of their immediate consequences. Since the conferences brings together specialists from different philological areas (English, Italian, American, French and German literature) attached to the Faculty of Language Studies, Translation and Communication, potential students must be enrolled in the Degree in English Studies or Modern Languages and Literatures. However, due to the conflict had political and aesthetic consequences that affected the rest of Europe, the conference is also of interest for the students belonging to other philological Degrees, and those whose academic training have a historicist orientation (Degree in History), Legal (Degree in Law) or artistic (Degree in History of Art).
