Two promotion events and four official competitions

The UV and the UPV host two promotion events of rowing and trail. Two sports which until now have not participated in the Regional University Sports Championship (CADU) and that this weekend are the main protagonists.

Rowing will fire the starting gun for these two promotion sports at 11:00 in the facilities of the Marina Real of the Municipal Sailing School (North inner harbour). Tomorrow event starts at 11:00 with the qualifying rounds and at 13:00 start the finals. The competition takes place in men’s (ABSF) and women’s (ABSM) categories, in the modalities Doble Sc Doble Scull of rowing of mar C2X, over an approximate distance of 4 km.

Sunday is the turn of trail. A competition to kick off at 9:00 in the natural park of Rodeno (Vilamarxant) where the different universities compete during 13 km in the female category and by teams for reaching the podium. Admission is free and it is an unique opportunity to see the teams of the different universities playing competitions which never before have been organised at university level.

Climbing, judo, taekwondo and archery also will compete for the regional championship on Saturday. In addition to the promotion sports, four university regional sport championships will be played on Saturday.

The first one, climbing, will take place in the facilities of the sports centre of the UPV at 10:00. The championship is carried out in two categories; general and by gender. Mónica Sánchez, coach of the University team is clear about what is the goal of the team “This year we have a new climbing team comprising seven athletes: 4 girls and 3 boys, and we have set the goal of qualifying for the finals. Among the strongest girls we have Noelia Garcia and Ángela Altabade Cantavieja, who have potential to reach the podium. However, we must not forget that there are two emerging novice climbers, Audhild Hogasen and Andrea Cervera. In regards to boys, the 3 athletes Nicolas Llin, Victor Guillem and Luis Felipe Granja, will have to struggle to get into the final, which is not easy given the level of climbers from other universities, which include the host (UPV), the University of Alacant and the Catholic University of Valencia. The team has done an excellent job during the course, giving their best in training and internal competitions and with an eye on the CADU. We hope to make a meritorious participation in the competition.

The CADU of judo and archery is also competed at the Politécnica. The first one takes place from 10:00. The team coached by Vicente Rochela compete in the team championships, as well as according to gender and age. While the archery team goes to the UPV’s football pitch to compete for the modalities recurve and compound bow at 10:00. Their companions of the taekwondo team must move to the sports pavilion of the Inmaculada Campus (Torrent) to compete for the regional taekwondo championship, organised by the Catholic University of Valencia from 10:00.
