This exhibition gives visibility to all the work carried out regarding arts in education

The opening will be on 4 November, 2015 at 12:30.

The initiative stems from the idea of responding to the fragile situation of arts education within the educational system. The need for arts learning at different levels of compulsory education must be defended.

Picasso’s Guernica was very present at many arguments and murals in the 1980s and was the image of democracy in the years after Franco’s dictatorship. It has been working hard since then, although a continued loss of curricular presence of visual arts is evident. It is unwise to locate youth training only in the few centres offering upper secondary-education in arts, since it would mean leaving the rest of the citizenry without training in visual culture.

Another reason to motivate this exhibition is the education offered by the Universitat de València, which includes five years of Drawing Teacher Training in the Master’s degree in Secondary Education Teaching, the option for many students within this master’s degree. These students deserve our solidarity, and we are training professionals who will be responsible for generating interest in art and culture among the younger generations. Arts education can become an engine of social change.
