We expect our students to understand that the manner in which all women artists have managed to speak about a multiple and unprecedented identity is through a non-conformist aesthetics and with its own willingness, where the physical conditions has risen as undisputed protagonist of this extreme, solid and committed will that has tried to suppress and report the differences with patriarchy. The female body has been the meeting point and the canvas of expression upon which to project their needs, theirs demands and their complaints. The opportunity to define themselves has meant to these women artists a liberation that has allowed them, for the first time, to appropriate their body which patriarchy had used, abused and enjoyed. They have risen against this domain and have appropriated of it to discuss their own issues within a feminine aesthetic universe which besides joining them has defined them. Their works have rejected the voyeuristic language prevailing for the chauvinist aesthetics and the public who saw the female nude as the reification of a consumer item, contrary to the male nude that was seen as the controlling body, as a synonymous with order, power and vitality. Subverting consciously this principle of subordination which gave the male artist the possibility to confer sensuality to female body, all women artists, and from the feminist point of view, have chosen in their work to banish the phallocentric aesthetics rules, container of sexual desire and paradigm of western aesthetics. To accomplish their purpose it is necessary to understand that these artists have used the less chauvinistic artistic techniques such as bodily activities; performance, an ephemeral art with which, since the seventies, artists reassert their control over what happens to their own bodies; photography, with which all pre-established forms of looking female bodies have been challenged; technological and digital media used since the late nineties to produce their visual installations or to make their performances in limited or unique editions, and finally Internet, space which became especially relevant during the Fourth International Lecture on Women in Beijing.
