Exposición en Sollana

The University of Valencia, through the Office of the Vice-Principal for Territorial Projection and Participation, maintains the strategy of being present in the Valencian territory through the organisation of activities in towns and regions, and the collaboration of university specialists. The case of this exhibition, focused on the Ribera del Júcar, emblematic region of the Valencian coast, where the great Valencian river not only gives its name, but also explains its existence. In the exhibition “The University of Valencia and its regional environments: the Ribera del Júcar” , approximately 50 teachers from different knowledge areas of the university, several research groups, as well as public administration technicians and local specialists participated. The Ribera del Júcar is nowadays the Valencian scenario where it is displayed the main intensive agriculture, specially the irrigated, where rice fields, citrus fruits, other fruit trees and vegetables, that had been watered by a complex hydraulic system of channels for centuries. Likewise, it is a place full of a special richness, socio-economically heterogeneous (motoring industry, tourism, cooperativism), very valuable because its cultural legacy (architectural and artistic heritage, celebrations and traditions, eminent personalities) and with a great landscape value and environmental interest (Albufera and its rice fields or the inland mountains), where there is an important plant and species diversity (birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians). Definitely, this exhibition aims to discover us how the current reality was constituted in a region that pretends to preserve its historical heritage, its signs of identity, in the globalised world we live.
