Place: Municipal Exhibition Room, País Valencia Square, unnumbered (under the stage).

Topic:

The Horta of Valencia, the most densely populated (2,500 inhabitants per km2) of all the Valencian regions, is composed of 44 municipalities with a population of more than a million and a half.

The Horta of Valencia, named that way due to the abundance of vegetable crops that historically filled the region, through the last decades has experienced an intense urban development that has derived in the reduction of the number of hectares with vegetable crops.

This exhibition shows us the complex relation that historically has been maintained between the city and the "horta" (vegetable crops) of Valencia, relation that sometimes has been harmonic and interdependent, but other times has been conflictive –disturbance by the "hortelanos" (market gardeners) against the city- and predation -of the urban economic forces towards the "horta" (vegetable crops).

In addition, the exhibition deals with other aspects of the Horta de Valencia such as environmental education, biodiversity (flora, vegetation, fauna), human geography (urban expansion at the expense of the "horta", automatic irrigation networks), physical geography (climate and geomorphology), and history of art (environmental art, orange tree plantations) and history (where stand out the references to the Water Tribunal "Tribunal de las Aguas")..
