Amores Grup de Percussio closes this Monday 7, July the Serenates cycle in the Claustre of the University of Valencia with the universal release of the pocket opera “El mal vino con musica” (Bad wine with music) by J.S Chapi and with Paco Zarzoso’s libretto, a composition under order of CulturArts within this organism’s participation in this year’s 25th anniversary of Grup Amores.

The concert is free, from 22:30 (with an invitation which has to be picked up from an hour before the concert celebration in the building’s post of superintendent until full capacity is reached).

“El mal vino” is a tragicomic operetta for vocals and percussions in which singers Maria Garcia Macia, Luca Espinosa will participate next to the “cantaor” (typical Spanish singer) Miguel Gil. The musicians will be Pau Ballester, Ángel Garcia and J.S. Chapi, de Amores. Electronics will be under Miguel Angel Berbis’ charge.

This opera, directed by its librettist Paco Zarzoso, is a musial tragicomedy which aims to break with the traditional concept of opera and unite lyrical voices with voices from other styles within the values that have guided Amores’ trajectory such as the connection of recompilation and innovation, the formative aspect, both in search and education, modernity and the rupture of traditional concept as well as the union of diverse efforts.

“El mal vino” is a musical tragicomedy sung by three interprets one man and two women. A sixty-year-old father and his two daughters, a bass, a soprano and a mezzo-soprano, three voice registers of the human scale to sing to bad wine in a double acceptation; “bad” as a reference to a tragedy which is to come and as a bad inebriation as a self-destructive inebriation.

Regarding the music, it tries to assemble the lyrical with the popular voices under an ancestral, rhythmical and harmonic foundation rich in colors and textures represented by different instruments from the percussion family and the effects produced by electronics. Conjugating tradition and avant-garde, the way to address the music is an intermixture of parallel currents which reunites various registers, complexity in the rhythms, different harmonic paces such, as well as the presence of improvisation and Mediterranean consonances.
