Donna Hicks, professor at Hardvard University, leads the International Excellence Encounter VLC/CAMPUS on conflict and human dignity. Hicks will be present in different venues over three days. The Universidad de València and the Valencian Government (Generalitat Valenciana) organize this activity, within the framework of the areas of scientific collaboration with the Real Colegio Complutense at Harvard University and the International Excellence Campus VLC/CAMPUS, financed by the Ministeri d’Educación, Cultura y Deporte (Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports). 

‘Understanding the conflict from human dignity: a responsibility of everyone’ is the title of Hick’s conference at Principal Peset. This activity is coordinated by the Consellería de Transparencia, Responabidad Social, Participación y Cooperación (Department of Transparency, Social Responsibility, Participation and Cooperation) of the Valencian government (Generalitat Valenciana).  With this conference starts the Foro de Cooperación de la Generalitat Valenciana (Cooperation Forum of the Valencian Government), a project that intends to organize, together with public Valencian universities, reflection and debate activities in terms of cooperation and solidarity.

Donna Hicks is a Harvard professor who is specialised in conflict resolution. After more than 20 years of experience as a mediator in conflicts like those in the Middle East, Colombia, Cuba or Northern Ireland, among others, has applied its knowledge to the working environment in some of the most important companies in the world, as well as non-profit entities. 

Advocate for the importance of dignity in our lives and personal and professional relationships, she is the author of ‘Dignity: The Essential Role it Plays in Resolving Conflict’, published by Yale University Press, and has participated as a guest in TED conferences. Donna Hicks is a member of IECO’s academic board, affiliated to the Universitat de València.

Tuesday 6 October, at 19:00h, the Assembly Hall of ADEIT (plaza Virgen de la Paz,3) will held the conference with business owners ‘Understanding the conflict in the company: A need to confront the future’. During the conference, professor Hicks will address the key points to create a culture of dignity in the companies. She has worked, among other aspects, with labour conflict resolution, the encouragement of positive relations between staff members and the development of a leadership where diversity is respected.

Also, Wednesday 7 October (12:30h), the sala Sánchez Ayuso at the Faculty of Economics will held the encounter between professor Hicks, students and professors.   The speaker will present her academic and professional experience, and will pay special attention to a directorate leadership based on human dignity, and to its implications for the method that she has developed for international conflict resolution in business organisations from the perspective of an unconditional respect for human dignity.
