Enrolment for the 31st Edition of the Gandia’s Summer University is still open

“Espacios y estrategias. Trabajando el presente para construir el futuro” (Spaces and Strategias. Working in the present to build the future) is the title of the 31st edition of the Summer University of Gandia. 21 courses, an initial lecture, five round tables and five night-time performances complete the programme of this event, which this year will take place from 21 to 29 July. The courses offered, explains the director of CIG-UV, Josep Montesinos,is divided into three sets. On the one hand, specialized courses sets, “addressed to students, professionals who want to deepen the knowledge of one determined discipline”, among them a gender violence agent course and others about cooking, mediation or legal clinic can be highlight. A second set, composed by current courses, knowledge and society; those courses will deal with law, the media and ethical banking.

And a third set will be about general education where subjects such as cinema and philosophy are dealt with. This year there is an single price: 30€ for 20 hours courses; 25€ for 12 to 15 hours courses and 20€ for 10 hours courses.

Open activities
With regard to the open activities, some round tables and lectures have been settled, which will take place at 8:00 p.m. in the events hall of the Casa de la Marquesa. The most important event will take place on Friday 25 July with a lecture given by journalist Rosa María Calaf, as well as the round table about gastronomy, on Thursday 24 July. In this last meeting experts in gastronomy, as well as chefs, awarded with one Michelin star will participate, this answer the University’s interest in tackling this field, and the announcement of the institution to run a Degree in Gastronomy is completed. In addition, there will be other round tables that will deal with territorial economic competitiveness the present and the future of the justice or the challenges of the multi-state Spain, organized by the Chair Alfons Cucó and Ernest Lluch Foundation.

As for night-time exhibitions, it has been informed in advance that a music series named “Cicle de trobadors i joglars. Poesia en veus dels cantants valencians” (Troubadours and jongleurs series. Poetry recited by Valencian singers) will be held, the series will take place between Tuesday 22 July and Thursday 24 July and several local singer versioning poets have been contacted for the occasion. In addition, on Friday 25 July an astronomic observation activity will take place and on Monday 28 July, a theatre performance. The programme, still to be confirmed will be in Jardín de la Marquesa , at 10:30 p.m.

Inaugural Lecture
The 31st UEG edition will institutionally start on Monday 21 July at 8:00 p.m. with the opening lecture, given this year by Rafael Tabares, Full University Professor of Psychiatrics and a member of the Biomedical Investigations Centre for Mental Health, and Medical Academics Award. His research has proven how Alzheimer protects against cancer, etc.
