The new Colla de Dolçaines i Percussió of the Universitat de València performs today Thursday, 26 May, in a concert that will take place at the Sanchis Guarner Room of the Faculty of Language Studies, Translation and Communication, at 19 hours. Under the direction of Juan Ramon Martí i Chulià, the group will release its first repertoire of traditional music. The entry to the performance is free.
The Colla de Dolçaines i Perscussió of the Universitat is a new project created with the main objective of improving the training of its students in the interpreting of traditional Valencian music through a stable, representative and innovating grouping in the area of traditional music.
Always from a training aspect, the Colla de Dolçaines i Percussió of the Universitat de València was created last February with the beginning of a course that culminates now with the interpreting of the concert today, with which, in addition to making its debut, the Colla will be officially presented to the public.
The programme of the concert includes the interpreting of the pieces ‘Amadeo el dolçainer’, by Vicent Muñoz; ‘La nova’, by Xavier Richart; the folk song ‘La brussa’; or other folk songs like the ‘Ball de dimonis’ of Massalfassar and even a traditional piece from Navarre: ‘El xupinazo’.
The formation of the Colla de Dolçaines i Percussió of the Universitat de València is based on the Valencian musical tradition of the beginning of the 20 century, when it was possible to listen the music of a single ‘dolçaina’ in the streets of the villages that, accompanied by a ‘tabalet’, played old and new melodies. Unfortunately, the ‘dolçainers’ started to disappear until from the 70s a wave of young ‘dolçainers’ lead the way creating a whole network of new schools of traditional music that the Universitat de València has joined with the formation of its own ‘colla de dolçaines i percussió’.
