Professor Pere Pau Ripollés, new Vice-President of the International Numismatic Council

The Professor of the Universitat de València Pere Pau Ripollés, prehistory and archaeology full university professor, has been elected Vice-President of the International Numismatic Council. This organization aims to promote Numismatic and related sciences in order to facilitate cooperation between individuals and institutions.

INC memebers (http://www.inc-cin.org) -160 from 38 countries- are constituted by institutions housing public numismatic collections, universities, organisms, institutions and non-commercial numismatic societies (locals, nationals and internationals) and coin registration offices. 

 

The Prehistory and Archaeology Department its a member since 2006. During the period of 2009 and 2015 has been a member of the INC, which is composed by nine members elected for a sis year period. During this period the Professor Pere Pau Ripollés was vocal, occupying the position of editor of the International Numismatic e-Newsletter. In September 2015, the General Assembly was held where the continuity of Professor Pere Pau Ripollés in the Comittee for a new period of six years was ratified, asuming the Vice-President position.  Doctor Michael Alram, from the Münzkabinett, Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, holds the Presidency. The activities of the Comittee involve, among others, the award of grants to young researchers, the sponsorship of research projects and the organization of international Numismatic conferences.

 

Professor Pere Pau Ripollés has focused his research in Antique Numismatic in the Iberian Peninsula. He has developed researches in the most important numismatic institutions. He was financed to investigate at the Escuela Española de Historia y Arqueología in Rome; the Cabinet de Médailles of Paris; the University of Oxford; the Department of Coins and Medals at the British Museum, London; the American Numismatic Society, New York (Visiting Scholar ANS Summer Seminar 2013); the Royal Coin Cabinet, Stockholm and the University of Bologna. Among the most relevant studies highlight “La circulación monetaria en la Tarraconense Mediterránea” (Valencia, 1983); “Le monete ispaniche nelle collezioni italiane” (Rome, 1986); “Monedas Hispánicas” (Madrid, 200); “Roman Provincial Coinage” (London-Paris, 1992); “Monedes Hispàniques a la Bibliothèque natinonale de France” (Madrid, 2015); “Las modenas provinciales romanas de Hispania” (Madrid, 2010); “Roman Provincial Coinage”. Consolidated Supplement (2015). He received the “Jeton de Vermeil” medal, awarded by the Société Française de Numismatique, 1998; and the “Allier de Hauteroche” medal awarded by the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles Lettres, Institut de France, 1999.  He is a corresponding member of the Real Academia de la Historia (Madrid).
