Universitat de València, through the Office of the Vice-Principal for Territorial Projection and Participation, maintains the strategy of being present in the Valencian territory and in local society, by organising activities associated with university specialists. This exhibition is focused on the Ribera del Júcar, emblematic region of the Valencian coast. The huge Valencian river par excellence not only gives its name but also explains its existence.
The display “La Universitat de València y sus entornos comarcales: la Ribera del Júcar” (“Universitat de València and its surrounding areas: La Ribera del Júcar”) has involved the participation of hundred teachers in the different knowledge areas in University, many research groups as well as public administration technicians and local specialists.
Ribera del Júcar is today the Valencian scenario where the main intensive agriculture is spread out, particularly irrigation, where grows paddy fields, citrus, fruits and vegetable gardens. Those were watered by an elaborated hydraulic system of canals and ditches over for centuries.
Also, it is an area of particular richness, heterogeneous at a socioeconomic level (car industry, tourism, co-operative system), with a valuable cultural legacy (architectural, artistic heritage, traditional holidays, famous people) and with a great landscape and environmental interest (Albufera and the mountainous landscape inland), where an important flora and fauna diversity exists (birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibian).
In conclusion, this indication shows us how the current reality of a region has been constituted. A region which wants to preserve its historical legacy, its sign of identity, in the global world we are living in.
