Universitat de València presents the painting donated by the Valencian artist Antonia Mir

Paisaje de Santorini.

During the official donation of the painting, titled ‘Paisaje de Santorini’, the Universitat de València’s Principal, Esteban Morcillo, stressed the generosity of the outstanding artist. The Principal also stressed the importance of sponsorship in order to enlarge the Universitat’s patrimony. ‘University and society must open to each other’, he pointed out. ‘We are not only celebrating this donation but specifically acknowledging Antonia Mir’s brilliant work, her artistic skills and human warmth’.

‘It is a great honor for Universitat de València to be part of the bunch of museums and institutions having paintings by Antonia Mir. ‘Others, as the museum Museo Histórico Municipal de València, Colección de la Casa de Velázquez in Madrid, Círculo de Bellas Artes, Consejo Superior de Deportes, Regions Committee in Brussels, Museo de Valencia, or Museo de la Solidaridad Salvador Allende in Santiago de Chile, among other, already enjoy her works’, the Principal said.

Antonio Ariño, Vice-principal for Culture, Equality and Planning, stressed ‘Mir’s generosity. She is an acclaimed artist who has taken part in every cultural trend in her times. Universitat de València feels very proud of enlarging its patrimony with this painting, which will be exhibited at the Office of the Principal’s building’. 

Antonia Mir, thanked Universitat de València ‘for accepting this painting, which is about Santorini, my favourite isle in the Aegean Sea’. 

The event had many Antonia Mir’s relatives and friends, as well as members of the university community.
