The Universitat de València will offer 107 official master's degrees for the course 2016/2017

The Governing Council of the Universitat de València has approved this Tuesday the offer of official master’s degrees for the course 2016/2017, which are 107 qualifications of all the area of knowledge. The offer has been increased with 6 master’s degrees, some of them are considered strategic for the academic institution. The counts of Universitat of the year 2015 have been also known.

The vice-principal for Postgraduate Studies, Rafael Crespo. has explained the offer of official master’s degrees, and has highlighted the good response that each course get on the part of students.  Apart from master’s degrees included in the previous edition, it includes two master’s degree linked with the Faculty of Law: Constitutional Law, and Criminal Guarantees and Socioeconomic Crimes.  It also includes a qualification of the ETSE (Data Science), one of Nursing (Oncology Nursing), one in Physiotherapy (Functional Recovery), and one in Chemistry.

Consistent Accounts

The General Manager, Joan Oltra, has presented the clearance of accounts of the institution of 2015, that now must be approved by the Board of Trustees. According the general manager, the accounts are ‘reliable and consistens’. An affirmation based in the fact that the Universitat ‘owes now less money that in the previous one, and also it is owed less quantities’ than in 2014. Even so, Joan Oltra has affirmed that the institution continues with its austerity policy in a general context of economic weakness. As an example, he has explained that the Universitat has consumed in 2015 the same kilowatts of electric energy that in 2014. 

In the income budget, the statutory rights of 2015 ascends to 366.854.001 euros. This amount represents a level of implementation of the 101,2%, in relation to the definitive budget of 362.447.051 euros, without consider the remnant of treasury incorporated of the previous year. In the chapter of rates, public rates and other incomes, the statutory rights go up to 83.707.648 euros, number which represents a level of implementation of 104,5%. And in current transfers, the statutory rights go up to 243.852.441,88 euros. This is the most important chapter of incomes, since it represents the 66.0% of the total of statutory rights in the tax year, with a level of implementation of the 99,6%.

The main source of financing of the Universitat is the nominative subsidy of the Valencian Government. This must be determined by the application of the agreement of 24 September 2010 of the Valencian Governing Council, which approved a new Financing Plan for the Valencian Public University System for 2010-2017. The budget law of the Valencian Government for the 2015 included a current grant of 225.871 thousands of euros, and moreover, a grant to the payment of the 44 days of the extra  pay of December 2012, which was paid in January 2015, in the amount of 2.376 thousands of euros. In October, the Valencian Government  approved a budget change and gave the Universitat de València another grant to pay the second part of the extra pay of December 2012, and recognised an amount of 2.592 thousand euros. In total, the grants to the payment of a part of the extra pay of the 2012, are in 2015 an amount of  4.968.046 euros.

Language Centre Committee

Before the Governing Council has been celebrated the Committee Language Centre of the Universitat de València, of which the academic institution is member.  The general manager, Joan Oltra, and the head of the centre, José Martínez Luciano, have highlighted the budgetary and enrolment stability  during 2015. Nowadays, there are 3.139 enrolled students in the different courses which are offered, and the accounts present a positive balance of around 250.000 euros, similar to previous years. Oltra and Martínez have agreed that there are possibilities of growth of the centre, but always related to the start of operation of the new building at the Serpis Street.

The Committee has named two new members of the Committee.  They are the delegate for students, Jordi Caparrós, and the dean of Economics, José Manuel Pastor.

Institutional condolences

In his report, the Principal has conveyed his institutional condolences on the recent death of the university community members. They are Natividad Macián Sánchez, retired full university professwor of Philosophy, of the Faculty of Teacher Training; Marina Zaragozá Pérez, retired full university professor of the Department of Catalan Philology; and Luis Alfaro Martínez,  professor of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry.
