The UV, through the Office of the Principal for Sustainability and Planning and within the Framework of the programme “Campus Sostenible” (Sustainable Campus), has edited a brief “Healthy Food Guide” with the goal of promoting the Mediterranean diet among the university community. This Friday, 11 April, will take place at the Faculty of Medicine and Odontology, at 13:00, the first of the three presentations of this document articulated, basically, in simple recommendations to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

Likewise, with these recommendations it is aimed to prevent obesity, the main chronic diseases and premature ageing. The hall of Degrees will welcome the lecture directed by Dolors Corella y José Miguel Soriano, professors in Preventive Medicine and Public Health.

The presentation of the “Healthy Food Guide” will be also carrid out next 14 April at the hall of Degrees of the Faculty of Pharmacology, at the Burjassot-Paterna Campus. On 15 April it will be carried out at the hall of Degrees of the Faculty of Economy, at the Campus of Tarongers. Both events will start at 13:00.

Support of the “Mercado Central”

The trade Association of the “Mercado Central” (the Central Market) have also shown their interest in supporting the “Healthy Food Guide” of the UV, thus, the three presentations will include a sample and a tasting of products which are part of the Mediterranean Diet.
For its part, students of the Degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics will also offer complementary information on healthy habits which favour higher standards of welfare.

The edition of the “Healthy Food Guide” is part of the strategic programme of actions Sustainable Campus fostered by the University for 2015 with the goal of contributing to promote the culture of sustainability. Healthy diets and fair trading are some of the priorities of this initiative passed in 2011.

The commitment of the UV with health promotion, welfare and quality of life of people who work and study in the academic institution responds , at the same time, to its integration in the Spanish Network of Healthy Universities (REUS) in September 2011.
