Polibienestar Research Centre has signed a technical assistance contract with the Valencian Council in order to diagnose the social services of the provincial institution. Polibienestar’s researchers Elisa Valía and Mireia Ferri will realise the diagnosis under the coordination of the director of the institute, Jordi Garcés.

The main aim is to evaluate the quality of services currently offered and to what extent are they appropriate to meet the needs and expectations of citizenship. Polibienestar will suggest which services are the most appropriate, which should be modified to increase in eficacy and eficiency, and which are working correctly. “When a particular service does not meet the real needs of the user, nor his expectations, we are far from the responsible use of public resource”, has explained professor Garcés. For the diagnosis, a process of participatory methodology will be implemented allowing the participation of key actors in the service delivery. “The only way to get to know which are the users’ real needs is giving them the oportunity to tell us directly; so we do not fail”, states Garcés.

Polibienestar leads several workteams within the strategic area of construction and promotion of environments, cities and communities which are capable of responding to the needs of elderly people, named “age-friendly environments” (Agenda 2020),  supported by the European Commission for the promotion of active and healthy ageing .

For its part, the Valencian Council has valued Polibienestar’s large experience in the study of climate change effects as well as its solid experience in design, implementation and evaluation of public policies which will allow the provincial institution to improve the quality of services given, implementing citizenship’s satisfaction at the same time.

Polibienestar is a research institute of the Universitat de València specialized for the fields of social policies, both in basic research and applied, as in innovation, social technology, and technical and training advising.
