Abe Lucas, a Philosophy professor with an existential crisis finds that his life is meaningful again when he falls in love with one of his students. Soon after he arrived to a university in a small town, he becomes friends with two women: Rita Richards, a lonely professor who needs to be rescued from her unhappy marriage, and Jill Pollard, his best student who quickly became his closest friend. Jill is in love with her boyfriend, but finds Abe’s tormented soul so irresistible that, even when the professor shows clear signs of mental imbalance, her fascination for him does nothing but grow.
