Presentation of the new Dean of the Faculty of Economics
I am pleased to introduce myself to the university community as the new Dean of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Valencia. My name is José Manuel Pastor Monsálvez and I am an Associate Professor of Department of Economic Analysis.
I have had the privilege of being elected Dean and plan to address new challenges for the immediate future of our Faculty at a time of great changes in policy, as you well know. My team and I accept the exciting challenge of managing an institution that is undergoing intense and profound changes in very adverse economic times.
We are aware that, as in all similar cases, we are not starting from scratch and we can take advantage of the work done by previous teams.
We would like to create an even more rewarding work and study environment with the effort and collaboration of members of the Faculty, professors/lecturers, administration and service staff and students. We offer – it could not be otherwise – a transparent, inclusive and participative task.
What will be the most important challenges we will meet?
Firstly, to finish the implementation of the undergraduate degree programmes, ensuring quality and excellence. Likewise, to promote and harmonise the official Master’s programmes making our Faculty a national and international reference in both undergraduate and graduate studies.
Secondly, to encourage Faculty visibility and outreach in the Valencian society, increasing cooperation with companies and institutions. In this regard, we believe we can promote job placement and career development for graduates.
All this requires us to be highly observed in daily management at the same time as having to plan for the use of available facilities to meet the needs of new teaching methodologies and management plans. In any case, we wish to continue our academic task in the Kantian maxim of "Sapere aude", dare to think. In other words, we wish to train our students as future professionals and also as citizens.
In short, we hope to give a fresh boost by encouraging pride of belonging to the faculty for all people involved: students, administration and service staff and professors/lectures.

José Manuel Pastor
