Health in the Workplace

Health in the Workplace aims to prevent workers from altering their physical and psychological integrity; it tries to improve working conditions and deals with everything that relates to health and welfare in the workplace.

Goals

Prevent, heal or minimise any condition that, related to workplace, may result in the deterioration of worker’s health.

The University of Valencia wants to guarantee its entire staff, through three cabinets, the periodical surveillance of their health state accordingly to the risks inherent to their jobs.

Confidentiality

The right to the person’s privacy and dignity and the confidentiality of all the information related to anybody’s health condition are always respected.

The access to medical information will be limited to medical staff and health authorities that conduct the health surveillance.

Health surveillance concept

It can be defined as the periodical use of a series of techniques and health data (surveys, physical and biological examinations…), in order to detect changes in the condition of an individual or a collective.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) defines health as a state of physical, mental and social well-being, and not only as the lack of diseases. Health in the workplace is when the interactions between work and health are studied, both the positive ones that benefits personal development, and the negative ones that may be cause damage, tiredness, stress…
