Master’s degree final project
The RD1393/2007 of 29 October, amended by RD 861/2010 of 2 July, establishing the management of official university studies in Spain, indicates that studies leading to obtaining a Master’s degree shall conclude with the development and defence of a Master’s Final Project (MFP). It shall have between 6 and 30 credits, in accordance with the relevant study programme.
Assigning the project and supervisor
The Academic Coordinating Committee for Master’s degree programmes (ACC) is responsible for assuring that each enrolled student has a topic and objectives and a tutor who is in charge of guiding and supervising the MFP.
Enrolment and attempts
The student shall enrol for the MFP subject and other subjects during the enrolment period. There are two attempts to pass the MFP subject per academic year. The period to defend the MFP for an academic year is the 21 of December following the end of the course.
The MFP shall be evaluated by a committee, appointed by the ACC at the beginning of each academic course and shall consist of a president and two members, who are preferably professors or lecturers in the Master’s degree programme. Three professors or lecturers shall also be named as alternate members. The tutor cannot be part of the committee.
Repository of the project report
The ACC shall regulate the length and format of the MFP report. In order to be evaluated, the student shall deposit three copies of the report and a digital format (CD or DVD) to the Supervising Body of the Master’s degree programme. This must be done at least 15 days before the scheduled date of defence.
The defence of all MFPs shall take place in a public session except if the project is under protection and/or transfer of technology and/or knowledge. The student shall present the project before the committee for a time period established by the ACC and, afterwards the committee may discuss aspects of the project with the student. The date and hour of the defence shall be announced on the notice board at the Supervising Body of the Master’s degree programme once it has been deposited with a minimum of 7 calendar days to the date of the defence.
Once the MFP has been defended, the committee and the tutor shall decide on the grade. A numerical grade ranging from 0.0 to 10.0, with only one decimal shall be given. If the grade is equal to greater than 9.0, it shall be decided if a Distinction with Honours is awarded.Best Master’s degree projectThe Governing Council may grant awards based on proposals from the ACC for one out of every thirty degrees awarded or a fraction thereof.
