The Physical Education and Sports Service and the School of Engineering (ETSE-UV) presented last Friday, 31 March the first League of Legends Championship of the Universitat de València which will be carried out from 25 April to 2 May. The ETSE facilities in the Burjassot-Paterna Campus will host the semi-finals and finals on 5 May.

The presentation to the Valencian media took place within the framework of some sessions that the technology company MSI celebrates at the ETSE these days. The event included interventions of José Campos, director of the Physical Education and Sports Service of the UV; Paula Marzal Doménech, the ETSE-UV director; José de Matías, the director of the division of League of Legends of the Valencia C.F. e-Sports; and the lead analyst of League of Legends of the Valencia C.F. e-Sports, Sergio Cerdán.

José Campos has pointed out that the competition of the UV “is a starting point, the setting of what should be a long distance tournament that must serve to open the UV up to the electronic sports”. Moreover, Paula Marzal has coincided with the director of the SEF that the organisation of the 1st League of Legends UV is “an opportunity to combine the sport studies and the technology studies”.

On his part, José de Matías has put emphasis on the employment opportunities of this field. A message that has addressed especially to the students of the ETSE: “It is a very good niche for the employment, a growing sector to which more sport clubs are summing”. “The aim is to approach young people to the competition and that we achieve to establish a renowned tournament with the participation of the students”, has affirmed. His partner, Sergio Cerdán, analyst of the Valencia C.F. e-Sports, has ensured that organising a League of Legends championship at the UV, a pioneering venture in Spain, “it can generate a list of sport players, trainers, analysts, managers and directors” thus creating a “competition with an excellent future”.

At the moment, the registration period will remain open until 7 April and it can be made through the SEFUV website www.uv.es/sef. The price of registration is 30 euros per team, which must be formed by at least 5 players and at most 7 players with reserves. The involvement of more than 200 gamers who will play in around 40 teams is expected.

The team captains will meet on 11 April at 14:00 at the Assembly Hall of the Faculty of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences in order to define how to proceed during the tournament.

The tournament will be available through the recording and the postproduction of eighth and fourth and the live broadcasts of the semi-finals. There will be a handing over of trophies with medals for the first, second and third positions.

The organisation of the 1st League of Legends Championship of the Universitat de València involves the bet of the SEFUV and the ETSE for the promotion of the e-Sports whose practise combines competition and technology through online video games. Therefore, the Physical Education and Sports Service will develop a session on the final’s day that will include a round table in which experts in this genre will participate.
